The easist way to overclock a rig with the FX-53 processor would be to raise the multiplier. I would only raise the CPU FSB frequency if I knew my memory could reach higher speeds with the same timings or if I for some reason needed a higher memory bandwidth.

Anyone with a FX-53 and a stable PSU should be able to push it to about 2600 MHz with the stock heatsink (Temperatures can be easily monitored by using the excellent and free MBM5 utility).

Example on K8N Neo2:
"High Performance Mode" - Manual
"Dynamic Overclocking" - Disabled
"Adjust CPU Ratio" - x13
"Adjust CPU VID" - 1.500v
"CPU Voltage" - Over VID 10% (~1.65v)

If the voltage is not enough for your CPU I would invest in a water cooling solution or a heavyset heatsink with a screaming fan before putting 1.7v through that little darling.

Good luck!

Tried these identical settings and after boot up it is showing a 6x multiplier only? WTF?

*edited* Nope... just the MSI Core Center garbage that I was using to check it was showing only a 6x multiplier. Checking thru other sources now and showing a 2.67GHz processor. I might try to bring it up a little more later on. I have a Thermaltake Venus 12+ cooling it for now and it is doing pretty well.

Thanks for the nfo

Edited a second time - I just ran up CPUIZ and it is still showing a 6x multiplier. WTF???? What could I have done wrong here? Windows system Properties shows a 2.67GHz processor as well.

I didn't read this entire post so I apologize if this was mentioned, but - you're sure Cool n Quiet is disabled?

Actually no it was not. I will be disabling that now and trying it again. I was not aware the cool n quiet would do that? Thanks for the info. Will post after I make the changes and let know what the outcome is.

*edited* I turned off cool n quiet and am now running a full on 2.67GHz system. Air cooled via a thermaltake Venus 12+ and running fine. Thanks!

What is a decent avg. on the 64 FX-53 processor temp? Currently I am staying around 53 C. I am thinking this may be a bit high, but I want to know what a stable limit would be for this system here? (full specs in sig)

I would keep the CPU below 65°C (under load). The best way to measure it's maximum loading temperature would be to use the S&M Utility. It is also excellent to use when testing the stability of an overclocked processor.

Looking of advice for a new CPU and MB.
I had some luck with a mobile XP 2400 so I want at least a 2.5mhz o/c.

I have a slk-948U that I traded my socket-a one for
kept the 90mm tornado fan should I go 120mm?
Kept the 512x2 OCZ EL DDR PC-3500 Dual Channel Enhanced Latency CH-5
very happy with my current fx5600 vtdr128 video. Some stock chashing but I think its driver board heating problem. The stock cooling is loose. I will be getting some new heat sinks and fan.

Ok. What should I get. 3200, 3500, 3800 of a fx53 ? and what motherboard?
I think my next step is a new p/s for the old AT case that I am converting. Which one?

This is a MSI and FX53 thread so I am asking what would I expect with my current equiptment.
