I've heard caps can cause high frequency noise; coils can too, but there shouldn't be any high frequency coils in a computer; maybe in the power supply. I suppose high frequency noises could cause headaches.


Possibly the coils mean an inductor, those tiny circular ferrite rings with copper coils wound around them to supress stray EMI.

Got any cats or dogs? Do they seem to notice the sound?
Old story:
PC speakers are apparently able to make ultrasonic sounds. I wrote a Qbasic siren program. Well, I tried a few variables that were outside of human hearing range. My one cat ran into the room, eyes wide, pupils dialated, just looking outright nuts, and meowing loudly. I stopped the program, and she started to calm down. Througout it all, I didn't hear or feel a thing.
This was a really high pitch too - higher than the whine emitted by CRT's.
