Please fill out your signature of your rig so we can help you better.

Im not AMD guy so I don't know how the OC will or should go.

Someone who owns or has similar board can help better.

I have a friend with an Athlon II 625 and we can't get that thing to overclock much at all!

it supports 125 watt processors so that's a good start.

you may want to try the asus turboV overclocking application from inside windows.

ok, I'm gonna give this a shot even though I never overclocked a AMD system.

1.Goto your bios screen (controll with your arrow keys in bios)
2. choose Ai tweaker
under configure system and voltage frequency choose.........

Ai overclocking , manual
cpu ratio , 13x
fsb , 240
pcie , 100
Dram control , manual
Dram frequency ,667
HT link speed 9x

and leave the rest on auto except for the cpu voltage , set that at about 1.45v or as close as that as you can get.

ANd the last one in that list should be Spread spectrum, have that disabled

Push F10 and save and it should reboot.

I got pictures of you bios here, scroll down some for more.

and used this overclock as a reference.

13 * 240 = 3.2 ghz does it not? is it possible to go higher?

See if thats stable first, then we can up the fsb and lower the HT link speed to keep it at around 2000 HT speeds.

That way we can find out how high your cpu will overclock, then we will overclock your HT and get the memory speeds up.

What kind of memory do you have 1333 or 1600?

You need to download prime 95 to test for stability, then we can see if it will go higher.
there is both a 32bit and 64 bit on this page, if you have 32 bit windows 7grab the 32 bit and the 64 bit for windows 7 64 bit.

are the 1333 or 1600 types of memory needed for overclocking? my friend says that the speeds/timings of his ram are 400mhz and ddr2. i'm not quite familiar with ram, so i don't know their role in cpu overclocking.

EDIT: it's 1066 memory.

Just put the dram frequency at the lowest number and keep your fingers crossed. :p

If the overclocks fails, the system just resets, no big deal really.

OK, so basically, lower the dram frequency to lowest, multiplier to 13x, pcie to 100, HT link speed 9x and increase the fsb speeds and voltages by small amounts each time until unstable or too hot?

better have an aftermarket hsf if you push the voltage like that... the stock hsf is barely adequate for stock... and make a backup of your os... they have a bad habit of corrupting the disk if memory gurks...

my x4 620 can do 3,25@stock voltage, it can go higher if u push the voltage.

Yea, that should do it.

1.46 I believe, thats a good cooler. From what I read these chips don't get too hot anyway.

How high did you get it so far?

haha i haven't started yet. i'm planning on overclocking today. are there any dangers of going past 1.46 volts besides getting too hot?

I'm just going by what other owners have posted.....

"hell no 1.4 is not the max. i have an athlon II 630 (basically it's the same as your 640 processor, just lower clocked) and I have mine running in another rig (i don't use it anymore) running at 3.5ghz 1.46 volts. 1.4 is not the max. You can go safely to 1.5 without any issues, although I would try to stay under 1.5. "

Alright, i'll try 1.46 volts and see how that goes. What's the danger of increasing the volts higher than 1.5 if heat isn't an issue?

pfffft...

if u r lucky the chip just doesn't boot... if u r not u have an overclocking souvenir and the opportunity to upgrade...

voltage is for people who buy aftermarket coolers... tread lightly...
