Hello guys,

I have an FX-9590 and been thinking about overclocking it. It will be my first time as I normally stick with default settings which meet my gaming needs. I have a question for you; how many of you have overclocked your FX-9590? And how far did you push it? Any tips for me?

Here are my specs:

CPU: FX-9590
GPU: HD7990
MB: ASRock 990FX Extreme 9
MEM: 16GB (4x4GB AMD Radeon RG2133)

I’ll be playing World of Warplanes most of the times, and probably Bioshock Infinite in between…

without extreme cooling this CPU have almost no room for OC, I think it's the wrong CPU for your first time... but maybe you could disable turbo and try to get all cores close to 5GHz, but you know... the gain is small, it's not a high % OC.

you are not going to find many 9590 owners I'm afraid, but perhaps the 8320/8350 owners can give you some advice.

Good point SPBHM. I will look at the Turbo.

I've also installed the AMD Overdrive tool, so far I just looked at the info, haven't tweaked anything yet. Should I stay away from it for now?

The Liquid CPU Cooling System that came with the CPU (AMD FX 8-Core Processor Black Edition), by Asetek. All my temps are around 40C (+/- 2).

The FX-9590 is nothing more than a factory overclocked FX-8350. Link. I hope you got your 9590 for free through your job, otherwise, you paid $500 for performance you can get on most FX-8350s with a decent motherboard and 30 seconds in the BIOS.

Overclocking voids warranty, am I right?

I haven't used an FX-9590 but as SPBHM said, disable Turbo and raise the Multi at 50. It should be fine, then you can raise NB frequency to 2400-2600MHz.

Just remember to put CPU voltage on offset. That way you will have lowest voltage at idle.

Temps only 40? That seem off to anyone else? I thought AMDs have trouble displaying the true temp a lot of times. Even my i7-2700k will idle at like low 30s right now in the sumer (high 20s in the winter) with Corsair H60 water and hit low 70s with IBT.

I'll check them again over the weekend, as I'm planning to start doing some tweaking

You must be thinking of Intel oveclocking and multipliers. A 50 multiplier on AMD will give you 10 Ghz which that cpu will never run at. (50 x 200 = 10 Ghz)

Well you may need to check other programs or bios or whatnot -- temp REPORTING issues have been ongoing for AMD. 40 does seem too low per the first review I pulled up http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...66-amd-fx-9590-review-piledriver-5ghz-17.html :

"The FX-9590 is a hot running processor and we don’t mean hot in any conventional meaning of the word either. This thing is like having a miniature nuclear reactor strapped to your motherboard; it will thoroughly overwhelm mid-tier heatsinks and AIO water coolers alike"

and as noted:

"With the potential for astronomical heat output, one would hope for an adequate way to measure temperatures. That just didn’t happen. RealTemp and CoreTemp routinely showed overly low readings and even AMD’s vaunted Overdrive utility was completely out to lunch...The lack of accurate temperature logging software poses a large problem for anyone with one of these 220W TDP chips: they have no way of knowing how hot (or cool) their processor is running. Not only will this play havoc when trying to dial in overclocks but it makes trouble-shooting stock issues all that much harder."

Sam is the 40 C idle or full out/ Run Intel Burn test 10 x and let me know the max temps.

If you want some serious OC headroom go with a custom watercooling setup with a 360 or 2x 240mm Radiator. Then raise multi to (28x200) bump volts up a notch. And then your good

Hi Sam, do you happen to know (can you tell us?) the max allowed operating temperature for your FX-9590?

Ehm thx, you are right. I was thinking FM2 socket CPUs.

Killer system you got there.
With proper cooling could you push it to 5.2 - 5.3ghz? That's a good oc for this chip since it's been extremelly pushed to it's limits at the factory already.

Sam is the 40 C idle or full out/ Run Intel Burn test 10 x and let me know the max temps.

So I checked it again last night. The idle temp is 31.2C, and after playing Hitman Absolution it got up to 42C (I'm using Overdrive to monitor the temps).

Correction:

My Liquid Temp is 27.8C (idle) - Using Chill Control
My Cores Temp fluctuates from 6.2C to about 12C (idle) - Using Overdrive

I have FX-9370, but I had no time for OC yet...But very good 8350 with wattercoooling can hit over 5.1 GHz. I using "only H100" and old good batch 1229 if I remember right. 5 GHz stable, 5.3 GHz Cinebench, 5740 MHz validation :). Not bad for this FX :)
