I have the 9590 with a asrock fatal1y 970 pro 3. I run it at 5.3 Ghz and turbo sits near 5.6 Ghz. Idles from 24c to 26c with ambient temp at from 20c to 22c. Since I have it in a 730x case that all 6 fans blow up to 5000 rpms when hot and the liquid cooler has two 3000 rpm fans pulling and pushing on it. Black ops 3 or battlefield 4 never go over 48c.

It is very loud when I am gaming because I use full fan throttle, I use headphones so can't hear it anyway.

Many factors make up a good overclocked cpu. cooling is biggest key, however you have to have a environment to do so. Fans big or small need to be able to suck cool air in at mass mounts and easy to leave. So restriction is key. My case has these tunnels to direct the air flow right where it is needed. CPU, and GPU. Never put case to close to wall or in a area that air is not free flowing.

If you want too, you can always use a mineral oil case. you would have to build one or use a fish tank. My server is in a fish tank design, it is a Xeon E5 2687w v3 intel processer. the temps of oil never go's over 28c. stable for 8 months now at that temp.

This is how the I use the 730x

While that is a necro, that's a pretty impressive 9590 setup regardless.

Noriyori, how recently did you get your 9590? The new(er) ones are easier to deal with than anything pre wk29 2014.

I got mine on sale in July 2015 from micro center. bundle mother board and cpu for 149.99. since I had everything extra at my work bench, but ram, it cost be 230 to build it. My first amd!

My last build which is still in use is a intel i7 980x with a sabretooth x58 board. I built that machine in early 2011. It run nice and cool. Thermaltake level 10 gt case.

Yes Magic Carpet
yes it put off some good heat. Lucky the office I have it in is down stair in the basement, it always cold down here with out a/c.

Cool. By any chance, did you ever measure its peak power draw? Also, what kind of workloads does it have?

When I game it runs at 40% load. When I render videos it runs at 20 to 30%. I have never had it load more then 65% ever. Even when playing a ultra on battlefield 4.

I can only give total draw from everything plugged in to the apc. The logs say it peaks at 912 watts. That seems not to bad with monitor, switch and computer. looking at the log it stay right around 550 to 625 watts per hour. You have to minus out the 2.5 watt for switch and the 120 watts for the 2 monitors. So I guess you can break it down that way. I know cpu is rated at high of 220watts and my gpu can go as high as 450watts. So I think the cpu only drawing maybe at most 120 watts on normal gaming.

The power phase go's down to 2 phase at idle and gaming is at 8 phase. If I am just doing small stuff it is at 4 phase. It helps out on the power saving. A software that asrock fatal1ty give for the board.

Whew yeah those things like to pull some power. They're binned for high leakage which is why they can reach those high clockspeeds, with sufficient cooling.

Nice to see someone still rockin the 9590s, especially with the new chips. And that was a hell of a deal you got on that CPU. I'm surprised it does that well on a 970 board, but hey, whatever works. Not everyone has to use a Sabretooth.

Microcenter is selling 9590 bundles for $149.99??!?!?!?!?!

(How much does 10 gallons of mineral oil cost?)

Not sure now, what they are selling for at microcenter. it was on sale back in July. I am a sell junky, when I see something that is very good in price unless I have no need or use for it, I jump on it.

I think you can get mineral oil for about 20 to 25 bucks a gallon at amazon. If you live in the country like I do, at the vet clinic or vet supplies you can get it about 15 dollars a gallon.

That's what I was thinking. Might be something fun to play with, for that price, even if it is a space heater. (And heck, I DO need to heat my apt this winter, and my apt. already has electric heat. So a PC is just fine for heating too.)

Oh well, looks like the sale has passed. Wonder if those chips will have any sort of "collectable" value in the future?

This is how I go my half of the office setup for gaming and fooling around. Since I work from home 85% of the time, my office is setup like this on one side and the other side, dvr center, servers, and my office are for booking keeping and database design.

I ran those tests. when I get a chance I will post up the pictures of the tests not just giving numbers. Updating my server binary right now and server is slow to upload too.

The CPUz score is really good! ~20% higher than mine @ ~5.25GHz (multi threaded score). Your Cinebench R15 is a little higher than I scored at ~5.3GHz, but oddly your Cinebench R11.5 is over a point lower than my score... throttling maybe? Either way, thanks for running them, I was just curious how you'd compare. Thanks!

See, now this kind of crap is what makes me want a 9590. Just for the shear blazing fury of it all.

the key to anything that runs fast or oc is cooling that is for sure!

tunneling air and straight in over and straight out is the key. a lot of people just have fans. think about cooling a car, you have a shroud to direct the fans air flow. this is key to maximizing cooling....

1024000 test--- 103.309532m steps per second . 121745 milliseconds to complete the workload

102400 test---- 108.00121m steps per second . 8128 milliseconds to complete the workload.

I am not sure how to read, however these are the numbers for the tests. looks like the quick test 102400 had more steps .

does other apps open effect this test? I have some data base stuff open, nothing too high just MS access database

Like most benchmarks, having other applications running will affect the score. You might get a higher score re-running it with all other applications closed.

a little high score

Thank you for running that benchmark. Did your processor maintain its clockspeed throughout the entire benchmark run? The score you have seems pretty low, since my Kaveri @ 3.4 GHz manages a score of ~103M steps per second. That's a significantly lower clockspeed, and half the modules. Of course, I'm running a Steamroller, not a Piledriver . . .
