If I see a black man in a nice suit and driving a nice car, I tend to think more of him than I would a black man in a hoopty car with five thousand dollar spinner wheels, rap music blasting and smoke rolling out of the windows.

I'd agree except that this was allegedly a "Martin Luther King" party. To me that smacks of more than poor taste......there seems to be almost some animosity or disregard behind celebrating a civil rights marytr by exaggerating negative sterotypes of one race.

Meh I wouldn't say that bolded part is completely true. I see plenty of black comedians making fun of white people for speaking properly, having good corporate jobs, or not beating their children. Kind of like how some white comedians will say that any black person is athletic and would beeat their white counterpart at said sport.

But i guess in the context of a joke, those things are supposed to be looked upon negatively.

What occurred was a party in which people made fun of negative stereotypes in popular black culture. Which should be done FAR more often. Nothing stops bad behavior better than scorn and ridicule. Unfortunately, far too many think that behavior is "cool" and imitate it.

Give me a break. We had a school-sponsored Hick Day at our school during homecoming to make fun of our rival team, who happened to be a county school instead of a city school. Everyone would dress up as a overly exagerrated redneck. Some of the black guys would dress like women. I never got that.😕

The point being this was thoughtless and has no part on a college campus. If you want to do this crap make a movie or do it in your own home on your own time.

Sorry but themed parties are a mainstay on college campus' and have been for 50+ years. The only thing negative about this is the media spin being put on it. 40 oz, chicken wings, gang apparel....watch 5 minutes of TRL or BET and you will find references to all of these and more.
