Ribeyes and T-bones for $4/lb.?..nope, not gonna happen unless you like "utility" grade, aka old heifers and you better have the jowl muscles of a Hyena to chew it. 4/lb gets you top round cuts (london broil, ect) and top sirloin on sale but not strips or ribeyes..

Yup, $4/lb is round cut or top sirloin price at Costco. I've seen choice NY strips and ribeyes in the $5.99/lb range at Costco but cheapest I've seen choice tenderloin is $8.69/lb at Costco. I've read lot of cows are being slaughtered because the milk prices are so low. I don't know if it's that and deflation but steak prices are some of the lowest I've seen that last 5 years or so. Not that I'm complaining. $8-9/lb for USDA Prime Strips and Ribeye is nice.

Like I said, maybe it's a location thing. Nebraska is kinda known for our cows.

Why is it called Outback?

None of their food is specifically Australian.

but their menu says "bonzer!" a lot.

Yeah, we don't say bonzer either.

:Q

You seem shocked

It's fine for a chain. That said, a chain will never have anything approaching upper tier quality. Don't go in with unrealistic expectations and you won't be disappointed.

Anyone with any brains in this world knows quality costs.

Quality ingredients are often cheaper than the nasty processed stuff that has been dehyrdated, rehydrated, packaged, shipped, dipped, sealed, frozen, thawed and microwaved.

And quality has to do with a hell of a lot more than just ingredients.

Did I diffuse your attempt at an internet pissing contest, or are you still going to go for it?

The ingredients make the food. Everything else is decor. The reason why Italian food tastes better in Italy is because the ingredients are better. A tomato salad will be tastier with heirloom tomatoes and cold pressed olive oil. Putting flash-ripened beefsteak tomatoes on a plate with corn oil just won't hold up quite as well.

I didn't realize a contest was going on. I was just commenting on the reality of food. It's pretty obvious that simple, quality ingredients are cheaper and healthier to eat than processed food in the long run, if you do cost comparisons and actually crunch the numbers and take a hard look at your eating habits and choices. In addition, they taste much better.

Thought so. K, have fun then.

Nice retort. I see you have nothing of value to add to this discussion. How is it being a smug chubby who likes to eat garbage?

Wow, you are a pretty clueless jackass, aren't you? Trust me, I can smell my own kind and you are indeed an ass.

Here is a good idea for the future: Don't make shit up. Do you know he/she is "chubby" do you know that they indeed "eat garbage" Also "quality ingredients" are not necessarily cheaper and may not indeed by any healthier. Those are very bad assumptions. Again, don't make shit up.

Also, it is bullshit saying that "everything else is decor" how about freaking cooking skills? Presentation? You can have kick-ass ingredients, but still screw stuff up. It boggles my mind when people such as yourself attempt to be so "insightful" (and I use that term quite loosely) yet you don't seem to demonstrate any sort of higher thinking skills.

You, sir, have just demonstrated in many more words why I didn't bother in the first place. It's easy to call 'em, iddn't it?

You must not go to your grocery store. USDA choice (and they had great marbling, nice eye) ribeyes were 5.99 a pound.

Yea, you see ribeye and strip around here for $5.99/lb too, it's a good price and I suspect prices may go even lower as the economy crumbles and people switch to ground products to save cash. You know the economy's in the crapper when Spam sales are up 30%!

I'm in WI, and you can often get USDA Choice Ribeye, Strip, T-Bone, Porterhouse, Tenderloin for $4.99/lb to $6.99lb. QUality varies, gotta check the marbling but you can get some great steaks. The local grocery store just started offering USDA Prime Ribeyes and Strips (wet aged though) for $12.99/lb

It's not bad for a chain restaurant, last time i went there i noticed the steaks being a lot smaller than when i first went there 15 years ago.
