Personally I hate that place, and I hate it when people say it's good because it's terrible. That or people haven't experienced a real steakhouse yet. Shrug. My friend wants dinner there. I need to figure out what to order without throwing up now.

So you're saying you're that sensitive to relatively good-tasting food??

Perhaps you should just stick to mashed potatoes because you're obviously too much of a pussy to handle any sort of food at all.

I can cook a better steak at home for 20% of the price.

Once in a while though it's the best choice in a sea of shitty chain restaurant choices (when traveling).

I'd smack someone upside the head if they wanted to go to one around here though. There's more delicious steak in these parts than you can shake a fork at.

It's "OK". A step above applebees and o'charleys. Seems their quality has really gone way down the last 10 years.

In general you get what you pay for there. Why not have have your friend over and cook some nice steaks to show them the real deal?

I ordered a steak there once, and only once, and it was actually really damn good. I hardly ever go there (or anywhere to eat, for that matter), though.

I think Outback is (or was, haven't gone since college) decent. Not sure if they still have it, but I always thought the rack of lamb was the best thing on the menu.

Their steak isn't bad, despite what OP has put forward. I've been to some of the top NY and DC steakhouses and yes, they're much better, but Outback is casual dining and fills that niche rather nicely.

Of course, bonus points for anyone that has been to Ray's The Steaks in Arlington VA and knows how good that is...

It's acceptable but given the wait times for a table around here its definitely NOT worth it...

Fuck, it's not the greatest steakhouse out there but it's not an abomination

Think about it this way: Olive Garden rapes the concept of Italian, Outback...not so much for steaks.

It's not the greatest place but fine. I don't go there but I have and my steak has been acceptable.

I have been to quality steakhouses and I still think Outback is absolutely fine for what it is. Seems consistent no matter the location I eat at (consistently ok, anyhow).

The one near me is pretty damn good; I enjoy their food.

I have been to some damn nice steak places that are in a completely different league, but for a decent meal I think Outback does a decent job.

It's their cuts that aren't very good. Absolutely agree it's fine for what it is, as long as one understands that.

Somebody brought up traveling and knowing that they'll get a decent steak at a decent price. That's the entire goal of these restaurants - consistency across all stores, it is priority #1. What that leads to is consistently mediocre.

Nothing wrong with that, but it is what it is. Not to hijack the thread but look at any cruise stop outside of the country - McDonald's is about as crowded as you can get. Hell, look at the line in any major airport hub around the world at the McDonalds. That consistency and branding is why. Maybe that's why I've noticed Outback being so damn mediocre the last 10 years. They used to be pretty good.

People are products of repetition and reinforcement, hell most animals are. I really need to go be director of marketing somewhere.

If you had to do a chain restaurant this would probably be it but definitely local steakhouse ftw. My biggest gripe would be subpar service and long waits. Why wait an hour for a table on a saturday night when I can make a reservation at a decent place and get a better steak?

It's decent. It's a steak. It's not like they manufacture the steak, the steak is going to taste like a steak.

I have paid $250 for a steak dinner (for two) at some expensive places, and the steaks there definitely are better, but they're not THAT much better. In fact I've been to places where I spent $60 for a steak and left feeling ripped off since Outback tasted better and I paid $25.

Funnily enough the Outback steakhouse is supposed to be an Australian restaurant right?

But we have none of that here. The only steak I eat is for $8 at the local pub with chips and a salad.

I like there prime rib.

My gf brought me to metro steakhouse in natick. It supposed to be a good steak house. she paid $35 my steak with no sides. WTF....it was not even that much better than other places.
