Our Congressional Leaders should resign.

8-10% approval ratings? Why are they still dishonoring us by sitting in those seats waiting for re-election? They should start resigning to save face.

Because they get fucking reelected every god damn time!

Hell, last elections we just had in Virginia, I think maybe a third were running unopposed.

Not defending this Congress, but approval ratings don't mean much except to guage election outcomes. 92% disapprove of Congress; 92% of Americans believe in God.

Yeah, I'm not saying that. I'm saying currently, only 8-10% of the country approves of the job our Congressional leaders are doing. Elections are fucked because only certain candidates from certain parties are able to get on certain ballots. Right now they should resign because an overwhelming majority of people disapprove of their work and have for almost a year now.

Maybe if an individual member of Congress has a 9% approval rating, there is an argument that resigning is the right thing to do. Trouble is, NO ONE in Congress, not a one, has an approval rating as low as the total body does. Logic dictates that this means our perception of Congress as a whole is systemtically biased. Again, not saying this Congress is doing a good job. Just saying that an overall Congressional approval rating means nothing more than that people are very unhappy and they perceive Congress as a source of their unhappiness.

Anyway, you can wish for whatever you like. They aren't going to resign.

The institution of Congress has an 8% approval rating or whatever. Individual congressmen frequently have quite high approval ratings among their constituents. Why should someone who is highly approved of by the people he represents resign because they dislike the institution he works in? What sense does that make?

Look at that for a second. The overall support for Congress is at 8%, but if you poll their constituents you probably have something like 60-80% approval rating in most areas. That doesn't make any sense and just reinforces my point. People are stupid and Congress should fucking resign. You guys are trying to use chop shop logic for this. If the sum of a car is 100,000 how can me chopping it up and parting it out net more? It can't, just idiocy. They should resign and push for new elections as a whole. It could be the one thing they agree upon to help the American people.

Mutually assured impeachment!

I'd vote in favor of kicking the bums out, so long as the axe falls on both parties.

Congress is the organization which is failing, what party affiliation its members have is of no consequence, they should all be shown the door.

I'm especially delighted that lawyers have over three times as high an approval rating (29&#37😉. Heck, even Wall Street beats them.

Personally I think a huge amount of the disapproval is a result of the do-nothing, party politics is paramount to the country's interests mindset of a certain party.

And give up their millions? Did you see my thread from 60 min on the grift that goes on with free stock options and insider trading they do. And power? Power is addictive trust me. I have a little piddly ass 5 person business and feel it sometimes and my wife has to set me down to earth. They command millions of lives. Never going to happen.

The only cure I see is term limits but you know they will never vote for that. With all the cushy perks I'd hang on as long as I could too.

Yes, as I said, it is illogical that we have 90% disapproval of the institution but much higher approval of actual members. In your words, it's "stupid." Which doesn't convince me that Congress resigning to provide new elections for stupid voters is the remedy. People should wise up, at which point they either realize that a) Congress is better than they thought it was, or b) it (and all or most of its members) does indeed suck, in which case they'll vote out its members, one by one, being replaced with better alternatives.

Democracy doesn't work all that well with a stupid electorate, and no amount of resignations is going to fix it.

It does make sense because each one votes for the whole nation. That is, the States aren't independent of each other. To illustrate my point, it wouldn't matter whether Dr. Paul was in TX-14 or in my district.

One top of that, the Federalists were stupid enough to call the Antifederalists proponents of democracy.

Agreed. There's no question that they count on having an uneducated or uninterested populace to let them remain in power.

As I've posted many times, term limits would be much worse.

You would have even more special interest control and less voter accountability.

Term limits are the only answer available, though, Craig.

The status quo sure isn't getting it done.

At this point I think that a random draw from the population of the US including Mexico, would be better law makers than our elected Congress.

The real answer is to continue to deny the Government tax revenue, while holding it to a balanced budget.

Then, it pretty much doesn't matter who you are, you are playing within OUR RULES.
