OT: VCR computer ***MORE NEW PICS***

I'm trying to build a computer inside of a VCR. Nothing very fast, but just something for my room to surf the net on. I have the VCR case, an old CPU and mobo, and an old hard drive, but I need a rather small PSU. Similar to the ones they use in those tiny Gateway and HP computers.

Not looking to spend a lot, but it needs to power a k62 400. Yes, I know this should be in FS/FT, but i'm going to relate this to DC because......well i'm just not gonna 😛

Here are the pics:

Be gentle, it's the first real mod i've ever tried.

and the specs:

AMD K62 400mhz
DTK Computers PAM-0052V Motherboard
128mb Mushkin pc133
GeForce2 MX400 32mb
Belkin NIC
WD Caviar 1.2gb
Gateway 2000 PSU (taken out of it's case)

Edit: I've put an old Gateway 2000 PSU in there, without the casing of course 🙂 Couldn't really find one small enough to suit my needs. Thanks for all the offers everyone! 😀 I will take some new pics as soon as I can if anyone is interested 🙂

Edit: Today I got a wild itch and redid the LED's, which you cannot see, but they look like they are actually supposed to be in the VCR. I also mounted the power switch in front, which you can see. The computer now turns on by the record button 🙂 I also put in a shorter IDE cable to clean it up a bit more. Next to come is some sort of cooling, still trying to decide on that!

If you really need it, i've got a smallish one, but as shipping may be quite high from the UK, you can have it for cost of shipping if you don't find anything else :

I've got a 200W (maybe less) Compaq PSU back at my apartment from a Compaq p3 600 mini atx tower. I can send it to you if you would like. However, you would have to wait until I get back to Indiana.

Dimensions? I've got an AT PSU that might work, but it's not a whole lot smaller than any standard AT or ATX PSU, so it might not work either.

It can only be about 3 inches tall, and 4 inches wide, 5 inches wide if I do some trimming again.

Depth isn't a major problem, but I need room for a HD so about 3h x 5w x 3.5d max.

You can take a regular supply out of it's case and it should fit. As long as you procide sufficient air flow over the PS components in the VCR case you will be fine.

I may try that as a last resort. Thanks for the idea Dave! 😀

I have a working 165Watt from a mini compaq computer (I think it was also a K6-2 400) PM if you want it. Free but for shipping.

I've got one. It's 3 x 3.75 x 4.75. ATX, 90W, was powering a 433 celeron, if it will work for you it's free, just pay shipping.

Have an old HP Vectra with a 90 watt PS in a horzontal case. You can have the whole thing for shipping. 😉

Edit:

P.S.
Has Win95 loaded and still works, added a cdrom. 😀

and is about the size of an old VCR. 😛

I know I've got some 155watt "Antec" ATX power supplies(new in box) that might be close to the dimensions you specified - I'll take a look when I get home tonight. 🙂

Thanks NWM! 🙂

Sweet 😀😀

I need to move motherboards round AGAIN (which means reinstalling W2k3 Server 😱) so I can finally finish my in-car MP3 player, as I got myself a 40gb 7200rpm Maxtor at the weekend!

I love my MP3 deck, but a computer with all my MP3's would be so much nicer.

On a sad note, i'm going to have to get rid of most of my stereo in my car this summer, as I don't want it getting stolen while i'm at school 🙁

Nice mod. Now all you need to do is add a CD-ROM where the opening for the video tape is. 😛

Can't really do that, the HSF is in the way 🙁

My friend, whom is very creative, thought I should hollow out a VCR casette tape, and have it sticking halfway out of the VCR and put the HD in there.

Not quite.
I had the motion to do this at the beginning of the year, when USB 2.0 became mainstream. Just get an external drive bay(s).

I have a USB 2.0 enclosure on the way in right now thanks to another forum member. But it is now going to be used for extremely loud very OC'ed computer that I plan to build with mega cooling. But I will not hear it as it will be in a unheated enclosed room. I am hoping during winter it will OC extremely well, while during summer, a fairly good OC.

But getting back on point, modding for a CD-Rom on that opening will be a chore in itself. I do not think even master Yoda can do it :Q.
Of course, I want you to prove me wrong there LyNx01 😀... and if possible, give detailed facts of the situation.

A challenge? Maybe I will give it a try, but i'll have to find a smaller heatsink, and the PCI cards may be in the way 🙁

Edit: Not even possible, video card and network card would be in the way 🙁
