This is just great fun: I have a Palm LifeBook, with great battery time approx. 12 hours of surfing and writing without recharging. Looked for a WiFi-zone, hotell did not have one. But: then I found the UNSECURED intranet ... LOL, it was so easy. ;)

Called the manager asked him if it was OK to surf and such and he said: "If you get out to the net it is ok, but the net is secured. You won't get out." So I asked him if I got on their network, and if I could get to the 'net, would he buy me a dinner and the guy said yes, " ... but you won't!".

He just left ... seeing me surfing, posting. He was initially pale and quite upset. He did not understand why. :D He said it was OK to surf and that he would pay for the dinner (any choice from the menue) but if I found out how that was possible, he would upgrade me to their luxury suite.

So, while he was here, I checked around and I found 3 wireless nets: one 801/b, one 801/g and one 801/a. The b and g nets were secured (WEP), the a-net was not ... (it took someting like 30 seconds to find out)
I am now sitting in the luxury suite, drinking a glassy of bubbly ... and am surfing on the secure 801/g-net. He will shut down the 801/a AP. smart guy.

It is somewhat of a pain of writing this with a stylus, but not too much, the screen is great, the browser good too - and I feel so good! :D

Freakin' nice job Peter! But you should have checked the network first, made a distributed install of a DC project service and THEN tell the manager! ;)

I would have liked to see his face when yout him :p

Now that's awesome! :D

Wow, glad to hear of a story where someone is actually grateful that a security issue was found, and did something nice to compensate!

I am not surprised about his attitude towards me - he was really nice about it.
But he was very upset about the security hole - he said that the IT-company they have used had assured him (in writing) that the intranet was secure - they do all their business, booking, accounting on that net. He used quite strong language ... ;)

Work. I have lectured 4 hours for 254 people. And all technology worked - even the hook up of the LifeBook to the projector.

Of course I look for free surfin', room upgrades and free meals. There has to be some fun in life.
As a matter of fact I often use the LifeBook as a sniffer. ;)
Yesterday I was at a meeting - one of those, where you have to be to represent and you feel that you can not contribute, but you have to sit there - and I read the Washington Post on the net - free surfing again!, but that was a WiFi-zone (public) and all thought I was so busy taking notes ... :D
:D :) :Q

Hi Mike - nice seeing you. :D
Are you done with moving? :)
I hope you like your new house! :sun:

Yeah, I will relax. They have a very nice hot tub here. And there are some nice female non-attached collegues at this conference ;) too. First dinner (not alone), then a drink, then the hot tub, then ... :Q ... tomorrow lecture again, then home. I'll think of you. And I'll drink a beer for you in about 20 minutes. Cheers, my friends! :)

almost,

everything is moved , been fixing things for the wife the last week, doorknobs that dont lock, lights that dont work, adding curtain rods and curtains, mowing the grass, replacing her alternator, adding towel holders, hanging lights in the garage, shopping for a portable dishwasher, rearranging tvs, dvd players, getting comcast back up and running, dealing with the phone company who are 2 weeks behind lol putting everything in its new place and catching up the chores like laundry. oh and getting the shopping done and bills paid.

not a bad week eh?

still working on the alternator and patching a hole at the old apartment.

I have pics of the house empty and am going to take some soon of the after we moved in lol

Still have to get the other machines up and running, and situated but I have them in place and almost ready to run the wires lol I had comcast run 7 boxes and a line amp and up my download speed to 8mb so we have plenty of bandwidth now :p

I may be driving a bus part time as well ... top pay will be 25.00hr after 3 years if I stick with it :) starts out at 16.00 hr Woot, I'll find out in a few weeks if I get it :)

I am in heaven with the new house, but all this activity has put a heavy strain on my back, but its good to know I can still accomplish what i set my mind to do, been missing working a lot, mowing the grass caused me 2 days of pure heck with my back though so I am slowing the pace a bit now.

I'll join you in that drink, I actually drank a 12 pack of miller gd and a 4 pack of JD down home punch as well as 2 24 oz millers after the move.

I bought a grill and have found a great way to "smoke" wings and ribs this week too lol

Off to bed for me gotta start at 5 am again tommorow. I am hoping to gt the computers online by sunday if all goes well.

I missed you all and peter ... thank you, I missed yours and jims kind words the most during the downtime, I had some help with the move, and the great folks that helped me, really made me really think about the teamwork you all show each other here :)

G'night all

Mike

But I like your house, especially the attic.

But I got one question: That PC in the bedroom, is that just for now? 'Cause if that's its permanent place, then you better go and hug your wife and be very greatful for such a tolerant woman!

:p
