OT---Math breakthrough! Now a work-log.

Congrats! Have you submitted the paper?
If yes, can you mail me a preprint? 🙂

Check your email. I will submit it Sunday night/Monday morning.

I was going to take a short break to refresh the synapses, but I can't stop thinking about the next paper. I have a new drawing tool for LaTeX that I must learn because I want to draw a picture of my next proof.

Oh, I really love Candide! 🙂

But I am more comfy with "Martin" ... and will be right (since he believes that the world is occupied by fools) if the paper is not accepted within a few weeks.

If you proved Goldbach's Conjecture, you are my Hero. I used to think about that in college when I had too much beer. Best of luck getting published, I look forward to reading your proof.

Have you heard something from the journal? Please let us know!

No word yet. The Bisected Pronic Series I created to prove three conjectures has some important ramifications about the distribution of the primes. Heretofore, unknown. So, the series may be more important than its use to solve the conjectures. It should take a while.

Due to some time constraints, I had to break my paper into three parts. The first has been submitted and I expect to complete the second paper by the end of the week.

I may have been a bit hasty with my claim for a Goldbach's proof. It looks promising, but there is one little unanswered question that would make it a solid proof. I need to do more research so, it's on the back burner for now.

Edit: I can email a copy of the first proof to anyone who gives me an address by PM or email.

Please let us - me - know what the response from the journal is ... even if it is a rejection or "please revise with major changes". I really want to encourage you - because this is science!

OT: I just interviewed a very promising candidate for a PhD-thesis - and that made my day!

Would the PhD candidate like to take a stab at Math?

Well, not directly. He will be involved in psychiatric epidemiology, which is essentaillay very advanced statistics; and in the project we are talking about, effect modiers, confounding factors and a multitude of different effects ... fun though ... 😀

He will be studying how meat behaves instead of how numbers behave. Got it!

You are right --- walking, talking, depressed, psychotic, living ... meat.

BTW: Did you all know that in one of the polynesian dialects the word "human" is translated into "long pig"? LoL

No news.

This is good though. The first proof I sent in a year ago was rejected in less than an hour. I guess it took them that long to get around to reading it. It was bad.

Meat has to be more difficult to study than numbers because sometimes you will find meat can have a mind of its own.

Still, no news is good news.

Today's response:
Dear Professor Kline,

This message concerns the manuscript

Bisected Pronic Infinite Prime Series
by Fred Daniel Kline

submitted to Journal of the American Mathematical Society.

------------------
I am sorry but JAMS is for top level papers by professional
mathematicians. Your paper is not written precisely, and if I
have understood your definition correctly, Lemma 1.1 is incorrect.
The sum as you have written converges.
----------------------------------------

I regret that, due to the large volume of papers we receive, we are
unable to accept your paper for publication.

Thank you for considering Journal of the American Mathematical Society.

Sincerely,

Gregory F. Lawler
Editor of Journal of the American Mathematical Society

I am not sure how to go about repairing this paper. I can fix the Lemma, since I initially had convergence listed, but changed my mind when I determined that the two series were equivalent. It doesn't matter whether they converge or not, just that they have the same behavior. I guess I should have said that.

I also have two identities that can be used to show equivalence. (I found those after I had submitted the paper.)

Like I said, talk about these ideas and problems on Mersenneforum. The people there are all very helpful, and except for R. D. Silverman, at least as nice as the people here.

Edit: Also read this page, partially for what not to do, but also read the next-to-last paragraph for what you should do.

Thanks, Ken.

I re-read those threads and read the crackpot.html. My paper had 3 proofs of some unsolved conjectures to show the utility of the series I have discovered. A definite crackpot indicator!

I think I will fix the lemma and add the two identities and put it on rudytoody.us so I can reference it when I ask the questions on the Mersenne forum. It will take a few days to install and test Apache and to rework the proof to strip out the JAMS specific formats.

Edit: I have sent a copy of the paper to Dr. Andrica for his input on my solution to his conjecture.
