OT: Example of how NOT to ship 2 processors

Remember that guy a while back that was offering P3 600's for like $100. Well I bought them from him for alot less than $100 each. Well needless to say (title) they arrived to me in a rather odd manner.

This is the Package
NOTE: I opened the side, it didn't come like that.... Suprisingly

So what was inside?

The Procs
Ahh anti-static bags. At least he did something right.

The Procs Themselves
Note all the thermal compound from the TIMs that were used. I have been able to easily take this off with a dry cloth. The thermal compund is actually dry and dust-like. Not that hard to clean up the stuff you send out.



Now being smart I had him ship first. I have the cash in paypal awaiting transfer. I need the procs so just sending them back is not an option. I will be testing them tonight and if they work, good. If they don't, then they will be shipped back in the exact packaging that they were in when they were shipped to me.

I find it funny your complaining more about the tiny little box the procs came in then the horrible paperlike envelope I mean at least the tiny box was encased in bubble wrap...which is probobly what crushed it...

But how should a person pack a chip? Why dont u make us pictures for those as well I wanna see what kinds little box u think we should use

Well, he really could have done this fine if he had just taken a FREE BOX from USPS and added some shredded paper. He got the free envelope and that's really dumb to use for packing anything.

Some people are brain dead, and hopefully your processors will work. I think they have a chance...

Not sure if there's a TON of sarcasm in there but..... I woulda put the procs side by side and then taped them flat to a layer of bubble wrap that was just the same width as a small proirity mail box. Then I would have wrapped the procs in 3 layers and it would fit JUST PERFECT into a small prioritymail box. Or if I had to use the little box that was inside, I would have at least taped it shut.

You have a valid point on everything but that. You knew they were used (I assume), and sometimes it's impossible to get all the compund off. Doesn't efffect the proc, and if they do work, he got them to you in working condition, regardless of their packaging.

I think this was less of a "processors should not be shipped this way" and more a "it'd be nice if the shipper cleaned up their stuff before shipping" comment. You're right, the expectation was that the processors were used but how cool would it be to get these nice, clean CPUs when the description is "used". Wouldn't that be nice to see?

I think his main points were that the envelope they were shipped in was pretty damaged, the little box that they were in, was damaged as well, while I think the seller was working towards the right direction, I don't think they put enough thought into proper packaging.

If the proceesors work , regardless of packaging, the deal deserves a positive.
Even though the guy could have used better materials, he still made an effort to package them safely.
If they work it was good enough, if they dont it wasn't.
Better than some of the stuff I've gotten here.

I would have to disagree with you. Heatware evals cover 'The Whole Trade' not just weather or not the item works. If we only judged heatware on whether our parts worked or not when we got em, then there would only be 2 options (Positive and Negative)

Testing em now.

wrong, if you get something as promised, when promised, then it's positive heat. It's not up to you to decide if it was packed properly. There is WAY too much subjectivity in that.

The downside is that if this were a component that was damaged, but not destroyed, then the packaging hurt. E.g., a video card that was cracked, but not broken in two, subsequently ceases to function becuase of the crack. The shipper caused the damage, but under your system, the shipper gets a positive rating. A CPU is usually either broken or not. However, it is entirely possible that the ceramic or plastic developed a microscopic crack that didn't show up until schmoe buyer puts on a new heatsink that has slightly more pressure than the original. The same result, idiotic shipper gets a positve rating, buyer gets the shaft.
