The downside is that if this were a component that was damaged, but not destroyed, then the packaging hurt. E.g., a video card that was cracked, but not broken in two, subsequently ceases to function becuase of the crack. The shipper caused the damage, but under your system, the shipper gets a positive rating. A CPU is usually either broken or not. However, it is entirely possible that the ceramic or plastic developed a microscopic crack that didn't show up until schmoe buyer puts on a new heatsink that has slightly more pressure than the original. The same result, idiotic shipper gets a positve rating, buyer gets the shaft.

Hey, it's up to the buyer to determine if the product arrives as promised. If the goods are damaged in any way that were not stated before hand, then obviously not positive heat. You speak of the "possibility" that a microscopic crack is created? Well, if it's microscopic, then I assume it could have been there even if it was packed perfectly and the buyer woudn't have known until he put a heatsink on. Either way, I've enver had the experience, but I do know that I have received one or two poorly packed items (imo), but the items were exactly as promised. Whether it was luck or not that they arrived in that way, is not my concern, or my right to decide.

If there is no discernable damage and the product works perfectly, then the seller deserves a positive.
Now, you would probably do different...

Ktehmok, you should write a book. Just a few hundered pages of that... repeated. I'm sure they'll eventually get the point.

I agree. I would leave a positive rating if the procs work, but add a note about his crappy packing. I would also write him an e-mail and warn him that with packing like this, he's living on borrowed time. I've done this on E-bay.

Well the procs work. I am running a full test right now. I will be paying tonight and leaving a Negatively written positive heatware? Personally HOW a person trades is equal in the rating of heatware. Beerology does a good job of this.

IMHO this is uncalled for.

Make a personal recommendation to the seller as to how packaging SHOULD be done, but if the CPUs work fine & arrived when promised I would give him a positive. As stated above, packaging is subjective. Most of the things I receive are below MY packaging standards (ie what I would ship to someone), but I don't question it as long as it works fine & is not damaged in any way.

Newegg subscribes to this theory of packaging, my Matrox G450 arrived wrapped in a single layer of bubble wrap inside a fedex box.

Worked fine, though.

Umm so OK I leave a positive heatware and nobody who trades with him from this point on will know that he's a moron? A complete void of common sense is the ONLY excuse for this type of packaging. And at least your matrox was in a box, it's not like Newegg stuffed 2 Cards into one box and then left the box open, put some used bubble wrap over it, sealed it with Scotch Tape, and put it in a bag.

newegg is a little different, they are a company... you can bitch and whine and get your CC company involved. You'll (usually) have an easier time returning.

i would give this guy *AT BEST* a neutral. At least to flag some concern. At least newegg uses a BOX for gods sake. These paper envelopes are good for only one thing, freebie tshirts.

I disagree a neutral or negative is unfounded. The processors were received in the described condition, the deal is done and the seller should receive a positive evaluation. I agree with whomever said that you should maybe write the seller an email about his shipping, and write something in the description about the packaging. That said, I think the way he packaged that was entirely wrong, and I am surprised that they were ok given the ammount of damage to the packaging, but the point remains that he complete the deal as promised and that deserves a positive evaluation.

That is worse than the time I got a hard drive in a plastic bag stuck in an envelope!
NO it isn't. I've had CPU's sent in less than than. One worked and one didn't. I had a hard drive shipped in a paper envelope wrapped in a pair of used gym shorts. It was a first time seller and he reimburtsed me my money and has gone on to become a good trader and a good packager.

I don't know what to tell you about the heatware for this guy. Personally I would like to know about this packing job if I trade with him in the future. I would personally e-mail and discuss this with him first. I'm a nut when it comes to packing though. My opinion is "better safe than sorry".

I'm not saying the packaging was good - Obviously it wasn't.

But no real harm arose from it, & it was probably just a newbie-ish mistake rather than gross negligence or malice.

good to hear that the processors are working.. why not give the seller a positive heatware since everything works.. and email/pm him some suggestions on packaging for future reference.
