Looks like a SandForce 2281 controller from the Newegg reviews. Not bad for the price.

Dumb question if you don't mind... my motherboard came out right before SATA III, so, my question is: Would one of these SATA III SSDs work ok hooked up to a SATA II controller?

Yes I realize the performance would be worse but would it still be a nice speed upgrade from my old platter drive?

Yes, they're backward compatible. It will still be much faster than your old drive.

Not a dumb question at all. I upgraded last year from a WD 640GB Black edition drive to a Crucial M4 128GB (almost the same as this toshiba).

I too only have Sata II ports on my mainboard and pondered the same question. Let me just say the difference was absolutely night and day. 1000% worth doing even on Sata II.

Makes any mechanical drive feel like a slug. :)

Another possible option for people. Best Buy, the ones in my area at least, have an HP V300a 120GB on clearance for $80. As a bonus it comes with a bus powered USB 3.0 2.5" enclosure and Acronis disk cloning software. I picked up one for a netbook I have. Took out the drive that came in the netbook and put it in the enclosure for a nice portable storage drive.
