Ha! Good thread - I was too lazy to get up off the sofa and post last nite, so it was fun reliving the LOTR/ROTK triumph.

Johnny Depp was robbed, though. He was amazing.

LOTR is a good series, but not worthy of 11 Oscars IMO. Overall the offerings were weak this year, but ROTK should not be best picture.

The only award I cared about was best leading actor and freaking Sean Penn won. This was Bill Murray's award.

Maybe if I become a raging liberal and star in overly dramatic schlock I can get an Oscar too!

I completely agree with you. Plus, you can be d@mn sure that Murray's acceptance speech would've beeen better than that hack Penn's

Lord of the Rings won everything it was nominated for, I think. Of course, in typical holywood BS fashion it'll probably continue to win until Best Picture nomination comes up. Then some low budget movie that nobody even watched will end up winning.

So if a movie makes a lot of money and many people go see it, it deserves to win Best Picture?

That being said, if it DOES win, the nerds on these forums will be strokin' it all night long

No, but if nobody saw that movie then there's probably a reason. :)

Ignorance probably.

You know it's all political. I mean look at the record, Titantic had a clean sweep by winning in every category it was nominated for, and RoTK won for all it was nominated for this year. So it looks like RoTK enters the exalted company of the likes of Titanic now. Personally, I slept through both films.

Damn straight it was Murray's award. I think the film itself deserved some more, but I don't expect the politically driven academy awards to give credit where it is really due.

Apparently it's true!

Rumors of Bill Murray's anger at losing to Sean Penn for Best Actor at Sunday's Academy Awards have been confirmed. According to British newspaper The Sun, Murray shouted at organizers, "If I knew this was going to happen, I wouldn't have bothered coming."

Prior to the Oscars, the award season had been good to the 53-year-old Lost In Translation star, causing him to attend ceremonies he normally skips out of dislike for the entire awards process. Murray failed to appear at London's BAFTAs last month to snatch up the award for Best Actor, but apparently had high hopes for a win with the Academy that were dashed the minute Nicole Kidman announced "The Oscar goes to Sean Penn."

According to IMDB.com, the comedian has said, "Awards are meaningless to me, and I have nothing but disdain for anyone who actively campaigns to get one. It's a really unattractive sight to see an actor or actress who really wants an Oscar. And you often see it on the show - you see their faces and the desperation is so ugly."
