Spirited Away was nominated for Animated Film! There IS justice in this world! :)
8 Mile was nominated for Best Song. I guess that means Eminem's performing at the oscars! :Q:)
Attack of the Clones WASN'T nominated for best sound/editing? C'mon, the sound of the seismic charges was proof enough! :(

I was right, LoTR would get technical nods. Im suprised they didnt get a best score nod. IMHO the best picture nomination was just a gimme because its going to be shut out next year, for all the major awards. They arent going to recognize it other than for its technical aspects, as well as sound.

C'mon, even if Serkis SHOULD have been nominated, did you REALLY think he WOULD have been nominated? The academy has no consideration for FX-laden films in the top categories. I doubt Return of the King will win anything next year -- it's a "sequel".

About a Boy is a more faithful adaptation of the source material than The Two Towers is. Not that this is the sole criterion for nomination (and I suspect there may be a "no repeat" bias working against Jackson), but I firmly believe About a Boy belongs on that list. If I had my druthers (pretty rare for the Academy), it'd win.

Ummm thats not criteria at all for best adapted screenplay. The criteria is, best screen play, thats been adapted from previous works. How faithful of an adaption doesnt matter. I mean, Cohen Bros for best adapted screen play for O Brother, based off of Homer(or whatever).

WHat a joke...

Peter Jackson doesn't even get NOMINATED for best director? Jesus...

I'll put money on this fact: Scorcese will win it just because the academy feels sorry for him. Gangs is far from his best
rolleye.gif

Chicago or Gangs will probably win Best Pic. I'll put money on that too

Not even worth watching this year...

Well, one good thing comes out of PJ not getting nominated for best director. Now he can stay back and work on his film most of the time...and not waste 5 weeks coming to the US and doing all the awards BS which set him back a lot last year.

Oh, and you're not biased, right?
I can't name any films off the top of my head that were nominated for best pic yet the director didn't get a best director nod (I know there are some...). Academy is all screwy now....it's all politics.

Of course I'm biased...but look at the damn film. Even if you look at it on a technical basis, PJ should win. Holy sh!t!

Oh...and why did Minority Report get screwed? It should take place of Spider-man in that list for best visual effects.

Where it belongs... no where near an oscar calibre film. Boring, predictable, dry... If you read the book you can't help but be dissapointed. They ruined it.

Actually, what it shows is the kind of bias fanboys really have. :) A film should NOT win best picture based on a technical basis. The film, otherwise, isn't one that is a crowning achievement in filmmaking. It's an epic film. They always get nominated just because of the size of the film, but it doesn't mean it was a good movie. :)

I've seen the LOTR movies now and I can say that I got the impression that in trying to keep with the original story, they compromised their skills as filmmakers.

Agreed. I loved TTT, but About a Boy was my favorite movie of last year.

GONY, while interesting, has one of the most convoluted Choatic endings I've ever seen. It was like it ran 45 minutes to long and the Editing Dept. ran out of money to finish the job.

What the hell does that have to do with anything? Can't you ever come up with an actual comment about the topic?
