Oscar nominations are out

I think the reason you can say The Dark Knight was shafted is because a lot of sources (not people on ATOT but actual award givers and movie reviewers) are rating it on or at the top of their lists of best movies of the year. I thought TDK was incredible. Was it a best picture? Maybe, maybe not. It's not the type of movie that would be expected to get an Oscar nod. However I do think it deserved a nomination for Best Director, so that would be where I think it got shafted.

How the hell did Benjamin Button get nominated for anything? Brad Pitt did an amazingly mediocre, yawn-inducing job, the script was bad, the pacing was bad, the cinematography was only middling... buh. The Oscars are full of crap.

And yes, I thought Iron Man was better. Ledger is the only nod TDK should have gotten in any major category.

and how is that? predictable plot? poor supporting actor and actress? feel good hollywood ending?

Ledger got nominated, I think that's all that was warranted.

this. i personally didn't think the movie was that great. don't get me wrong, i liked it, but i didn't htink it was oscar worthy at all.

however, ledger's performance was terrific and deserves all the praise and accolades if he does win.

:thumbsup:

Agreed.. What the hell. Benjamin Button was a waste of $14 at the theater.

wow I have only seen tropic thunder out of those...but what average person really cares about the oscars...they devalue comedys and comedic actors, and in attempts to get recognition many great comedic actors screw their career up

dramas are good and all but I love comedies first then action

Nice of the academy to continue to refuse to accept that anything other than a traditional drama can be good. And they continue to make themselves more and more irrelevant to the average movie goer.

Bolded = MTV Movie Awards

TDK=Best Picture. No.
However, half that crap nominated has to do with rankings on the social echelon of Hollyweird. And like someone said, it wouldn't be Oscar night without a cute Juno like film.
Milk? Average film at best. Sean Penn? Most overrated actor, EVAR.

dark knight does not deserve best picture nomination, quit bitching. it's great as a blockbuster hit, but come on!

Benjie was great, but I still prefer Slumdog over it. Dark Knight was fun, but there wasn't really any depth to it, so I'm pretty ambivalent about it not getting a best picture nod.

TDK (Keep thinking The Destiny Knight when I see that abbreviation 😛 ) wasn't bad, but not great either. I'd say 7/10 or 8/10 at most.

It was entertaining, but many scenes (like the chase scene) sucked, and the acting (few actors excepted) was overall average or worse.

wait, is it cool to hate the dark knight now?? damn it, i can't keep up with the cool internet yuppies.

I do not think people 'hated' it...but only found ledger's performance worthwhile.

Exactly.

It was blown way out of proportion due to Ledger, and while a good comic book movie doesn't hold it's own in regards to story and such. Ledger did an amazing fuckin job "would you like to see a magic trick?", and all the other scenes that made him simply amazing.

Frankly TDK was worth watching (and I own it on Blu-ray), but when compared to other films it doesn't hold it's own. Movies like Gladiator that have a great drama/story/plot, but have very strong characters, and tell it's story very well.

No... some people actually liked it regardless of if Ledger had died or not. I loved Batman Begins and was very excited to see if they could keep good batman movies coming. They showed that they can rock the shit w/ Batman movies when they want to.

It's not the greatest movie ever by a long shot, but to claim people only like it because Ledger died is ridiculous. I'm sure there are some out there like that, but not everybody.

milk? really?

gay person in a gay movie = automatic nomination

that's the way it works in hollywood. they're still upset over prop8.

I've heard nothing but good reviews about Milk and Penn's acting in it.

From who? The 4 people that saw it?

Sean Penn should win it. The subtleties he portrayed in that character were amazing, it wasn't just some flamboyant gayness, but it was there. Really great performance.
