if everyone assumes this and votes hurt locker then hurt locker wins.

hurt locker is seriously overrated as an oscar contender, it was just ok. but its like the hollywood crowd were just so happy to finally have an iraq war that didn't suck balls that they rallied around it by default.

avatar backlash, its cool to vote against it now i guess.

Did you watch the movie? I'm guessing no. The depth of the character, their personal psychological battles were just so real and there was no political spin. It was just the guys out there and the situations.

too bad the situations were retarded bullshit.

you could have the deepest and most well-acted characters in existence, but if you put them in a crap story with crap direction, it's still....crap.

they've let some retarded shit win best picture, but this takes the cake. i didn't think anything could lower the bar more than avatar winning, but congrats logicless universe, you've defeated me.

I'd rather have bastards or even up win.

Hurt Locker was boring. But I'm not really surprise. The "academy" is not reflective of the general public and often like to push agendas.

I was looking forward to seeing with Bullock winning would she even throw in something about the razzie she got. I mean she was a good enough sport to show up and accept it.

There is no agenda...Did you watch the damn movie? There is no political agenda whatsoever. It's not supposed to be an accurate depiction of modern military tactics. It's ONLY supposed to be a deep look into the mind of a soldier when subjected to trauma day after day. It showed you how a person is changes on a psychological level during war time better than any movie since Platoon.

You're a fucking retard. It's not supposed to be accurate!!!!!!!

Do you even know what they were showing? Psychological damage from traumatic situations during war. It wasn't supposed to be accurate or believable. It was supposed to only be a depiction of how you break down mentally. Sheesh.

So you only want CG movies that are in 3D to win? Common, Avatar was a very retarded movie. Fancy looking, but it was so stupid in every way.

You just has to be that guy that goes against the grain for the sake of being different don't you.

Well go ahead and stomp your little feetsies and blow things out of proportion like a toddler. Out of everything else up it was the best movie there.

Anyone get the feeling that in 20 years people will be talking about the victory of The Hurt Locker in the same way they talk about Annie Hall beating Star Wars in 1978.

Or perhaps Shakespeare in Love beating Saving Private Ryan.

They could have shown realistic situations and still got their point across, instead of showing ridiculous situations that would never happen and don't reflect reality.

Money made doesn't make the movie better. Fuck the 3D tickets are nearly 50% higher than regular tickets so that inflates the numbers right there.

Transformers 2 made a lot of money too but was that worthy of best picture? Nope, and it's evident by the fact that nobody in their right mind would ever nominate it.

You can like what you want, and so will I... and I think Avatar was a technical marvel with a very cliche and predictable story. It was the Pocahontas story to a fucking T

Fine just for fun say that all tickets were 3d and they were oh for easy maths 2x as expensive, thats still at 1.3 billion, which is still oh right 2 orders of magnitude more.

And your right total sales doesn't determine if a movie is good or not, but is a damn good indicator of it.
Lets for example compare something that made 25ish million vs something that makes 2.6 billion. In any other industry but the movie industry, the one that made 2.6 billion would be considered far better especially with it having a higher net profit in absolute numbers and as a percentage of total costs :p

Oh and interesting you use Pocahontas as the example, when there are earlier movies that it could be matched to as well, and lets not even start comparing it to books, plays, and well all the other arts.

Yes I watched the movie. I have no qualms with military tactics. Its not something I even noticed because I've never even remotely come close to the military and frankly little things like that I look over. I personally did not see any "deep look" into the psyche of the main character. From beginning to the end he was the same. Hell I see more of the the stress and toll on that one solder and see him just crack from seeing his commanding officer turned into tiny little pieces right in front of him. Though might be the actor more than the story.

Do you seriously not think that the movie wants send a message to viewers saying there's some crazy tough shit going on over there? They hate us and want to kill us? You do realize the movie wasn't made last year right? It was released back in 08.

Why, because Avatar did not win? It did not deserve to win. I personally would not have picked Hurt Locker either, even though I enjoyed the film.
