Damnit. Avatar's not gonna get the post Oscar boost it needs to take over Titanic (when you adjust for inflation). Oh well. LOL. Then again Titanic went on and didn't drop theaters till like Week 18 or some ridiculous length. That's like 4.5 months after a release.

Don't get me wrong. Hurt Locker is an awesome movie, but I just wanted to see Avatar destroy every box office # ever created :D I love tracking hot releases and box office #s.

Well I'm sure after Avatar AND Titanic movie studios will give Cameron carte blanche to spend whatever the hell he wants.

What I want to see is his next film cost a billion dollars to make then crash and burn at the box office.

Ok fine then I'll explain it to you since you obviously don't know. Ralph Fiennes get shot and killed in the exact same spot those 2 guys were sitting and sniping all day at. It's common sense that if someone got killed there you don't sit there and of course the bad guy can't kill them when he killed the other guy seconds before. It's also common sense to not shoot more than twice in any sniper spot. Also all of a sudden when the 2 guys get there the enemy sniper can't shoot any more and is really horrible. Also they didn't even mention if these guys had ANY sniper training at all and are basically better snipers than any of the other guys that were there and hitting running targets like no ones business. They sat there sniping and drinking on a bright shiny capri-sun. Also when that wussy white guy sees the guy sneaking up where the lambs are, he magically takes forever to shoot.

There's way more to that scene that is retarded and many other scenes that make the movie retarded.

Ralph Fiennes got shot because he raised his head and stood up to get better positioning. The guy was using a sniper rifle for most of the movie and they indicated that James was previously with the Rangers.

yeah because Annie Hall the 1977 Best Picture is always in the mainstream consiousness even today. Ohh wait, no it's not, but the movie it beat Star Wars is.

Annie Hall is in the mainstream consciousness of people who know anything about movies, and it made the top 100 AFI list. I don't think this is a winning argument.

Ranger does not equal sniper. And I don't remember the other guy using a sniper rifle. Scoped M4 is not a sniper rifle. And they hit a moving target. At that range even someone who practiced all the time would have difficulty making it, let alone a few guys that just jumped on the weapon.

datalink is correct. The movie is marked with very unrealistic scenes. The sniper one is just one of many. There is zero chance that would have happened irl.

One part I thought they conveyed well, was that war can be like a drug. Not just war, but the comradeship with your fellow men. Ive been over twice, and about to do my first stint in Afghan very soon. To the Helmand Province. As bad as I hate to leave my wife and two kids, it is kind of exciting, a high if you will. Going out day after day, with your same guys, forging a bond that will last a long time, is hard to explain. You're filthy, eat the same thing over and over, tired but you're still together and that makes it bearable. In that sense, its addicting. Shortly after I came home last time, I was missing it. I felt useless sitting around the house. Its hard to explain.

Im not EOD, but a Combat Engineer. We go in front of everyone and look for the IED's, HME, mines, booby traps, etc. then EOD comes in and blows it up if its too big for them to let us do.

Wrong again. Hurt Locker was the poorest performing Best Picture winner by a huge margin. Hurt Locker grossed about $14M, next up was Crash with $44M.

What I typed must have gone completely over your head as you basically restated my point but said I was wrong.

HL may not be an artsy type movie but it is off mainstream somewhat and it did bad at the box office, yet still won.

bingo, there is no reason for that scene to go that way other than the director is lazy or is simply ignorant. the narrative flow doesn't require that they all behave so stupidly. its not so much violating combat experience only knowledge but simply common sense.
