We have a req out for a part-time position (hopefully fulltime soon) in Colorado Springs with a good company. There is a person in mind, so I can't promise anything, but it's worth a shot.

From the req: Will assist (or be responsible for) in designing, implementing, and demonstrating prototype detection and data fusion systems. Will setup, execute, and monitor complex engineering prototype data acquisition and data analysis implementations designed to aggregate information about the performance of space systems..."

Looking for:
- BS in EE or CS, 2+ years experience (I think they'd consider other engineering degrees as well)
- Experience in AI based monitor & control systems. Robotics could be a + as well.
- Proficient in C++, JAVA (++ for PERL, Python, MySQL)
- Comfortable in Unix & Windows
- Experience in hardware & software for automated data collection & analysis

"Must have a proven ability to complete assignments under adverse schedule and infrastructure conditions." 😛

Security Clearance is a big plus. You have to at least be eligble for one (ie. must be US citizen)
Space Systems or Comm background also helps

Sorry if I offended anyone with my post. That was not at all my intention, as it was meant for comic relief. Good luck with your job searches.

Damn where are the workers? I said our company is looking for various programmers and consultants yet no one replied.

Send me your resumes people!

You may want to point him to this thread. Many good leads exist on how to look at what tools are out there.

This is a global economy. You can't want the benefits of gloabalization (exploiting foreign workers in some industries) without paying the price (losing US jobs in other industries). America was based on the concept of capitalism, free trade, and "build a better mouse trap for less". Well, face the music - others can make it better for less.

I'm not concerned with mouse traps. I realize that the most bang for the buck in a mousetrap is probably one made in China, and I'm cool with that. But there are jobs in the US that can't be done by someone overseas. I'm looking for one (or more) of those. Uh, I did lose my last full time job to a crew in India, I guess, but I'm not bitter.

I'm looking for FoxPro database work (I can program, develop, administer, troubleshoot/debug, etc.) in the S.F. Bay Area.

I figured why not. My wife is currently looking for a job in the DC metro area. She'd like some sort of helpdesk or it esque job (not development) or perhaps a bank. Any suggestions on how to start looking?

Washington Post.
Local area newpapers.
All the job search methods referenced within this thread.
Local employment offices (VA & MD)

Shoe leather at all the banks in the area that she would like to work at.
Most banks have a web site that will list open positions.

say, anyone know of good IT recruiters for NYC? Or IT mgr contacts at banking/brokerages... My sibling, about 5 yrs of IT support type of experience within the brokerage/ Financial area and hoping to remain in that arena, is looking after a layoff.

To the IT people reading this thread:

For someone fresh out of college with an Info Systems degree what skills should he/she learn to make himself more marketable for an entry-level position as a systems analyst or anything related to IT in general? I want to improve my skillset but with all the different certifications/program languages out there I'm not sure where to start. I'm looking to stay away from the programming aspect and instead work on the management side of IT.

Looking for mid-senior level desktop support or entry-mid level server/network support job in the Phoneix, AZ area.

Degree in Comp Sci, many certifications(listed in sig), and 8 years experience in the field, mainly in desktop support and helpdesk.

Hrm, maybe you guys can point me in the right direction as I'm feeling lost.

I was laid off one week before Christmas and haven't really pulled myself back up yet. I'm 23 years old. Worked at an insurance agency as an agent since my senior year in high school until I was laid off. More CSR work then sales. So I have this nice resume for the insurance industry, but I feel I don't belong.

I enjoyed helping people, but I realized it's a dirty business - or at least the place I worked at. I'm not sure I want to waste another five years in something I don't enjoy. I do not know any programming whatsoever for PCs. I've basically just been tearing them apart and putting them back together since '95 (13). I can do the easy things as far as installs, OSs, general hardware/software repairs. I know I enjoy computer hardware, but never really picked up on the software part. I have no training, and things started off so well as an insurance agent I never attended college.

I guess at this point I'm asking you guys who are more familiar as your in the industry now, have gone through school, and have experienced the field.

Are there entry level jobs for guys like me? Or somewhere to go in the right direction? Is job security still a major problem?

I'll hopefully go see a college counsler soon to even get an idea of what type of field/career I'd even go into as I know I need a college degree. I'd just like to hear from the community that's actually in the field first. I'm in the Cleveland, OH area.

Thanks.

Shoe leather at all PC support shops.

Without any type of formal training it would be tough to get into the large tech support side of the house.

Small shops may allow you sell yourself to the owner and prove yourself. Over the past 3-5 years, I have seen multiple ads for techs and help desk, USually 2-3 ever day (some may be repeats)

There are "trade"/training schools that you could go to which will give you some paperwork and guide you into the field through their contacts. Be very careful to filter the smoke of promises to what they actually can deliver. Check with their client references for actual numbers and opinions before you commit. Some are almost a fly-by-night, others have fancy names, but do not deliver real quality.

Hi all. I am going to be graduating from Virginia Tech in May 2005. I have two degrees under my belt: B.S. in Finance and B.S. in Management. I had an internship with Morgan Stanley in Fall 2004 and the office I worked at labeled me as the "Best Intern" they ever had. If you are looking for a techsavy recent graduate with finance/accounting/management education, please let me know
