Send me a PM, I can be reached via AIM, MSN, and ICQ.

That's very nice of you Rossman. Like you I've already got a dozen websites for various reasons but only one with the possibility of making any money and not a lot either so I just haven't had the resources to get it going. I was going to register jobnetworking.com for this purpose. Non-profit just for the helping of other people like this thread has been doing. I would be glad to contribute to the site. I could do PHP but have never had a dedicated server I could run it on myself. To borrow Fox's Nascar line, Let's Crank it Up.

I hope whoever has that jobworking.com domain does something useful and beneficial with it. I did a whois search before and it was free but Rossman did a search and it said it has been registered a while already.

OK, my turn I suppose.

I'm from Miami but moved to the orlando, FL. area a couple years back. I worked in a computer store doing the usual building systems and repars while in college from 96-2000. I studied CIS at MDCC and FAU, but never finished my BS. The past couple years I've been bouncing around from one dead end job to the next, usually doing sales. I quit the crappy sales job I had in november in hopes of pursuing a career in the tech industry again. Huge mistake.

In january I got my A+ and had planned to study for the network+ and possibly MCSE. The A+ was easy but I need to take some classes for the other certifications. I had hoped to get an entry level position working helpdesk or build PC's again but no luck so far. I've applied to a lot of jobs, both publicly posted and not. I've had some interviews at local computer stores but even one of them wanted someone with more than 5 years exp.

Right now I'm about to give up completly on a career in the computer field. Orange county (FL) is hiring firefighters and paying for them to attend the academy, which is a really amazing opportunity. I've made it past the first level of the hiring process so far.

If that dosen't work out I'll probibly take another sales job and go back to college. However, I'll change my major to history most likely.

dmcowen674 posted the following update in his original post,

Edit: 4/22/2003 Rossman has graciously registered a Domain name and fired up both a PHP Forum and HTML dedicated to working inconjunction with this thread. It is an area where the info can be organized by Country, State, Jobs etc and everyone can dynamically communicate back and forth. It is the same name as this thread JobNetworking.org for the HTML main page and forums.jobnetworking.org directly into the Forums.

If there is anyone that would like to Volunteer to help with this Non-Profit, Non paying venture that has been born of necessity by the clear failure of the For Profit sites everywhere, please either PM me or Rossman.

Slogan I sort of came up with for now is "No Monsters in here, just jobs".

RossMAN,

Do you have access to MySQL & PHP at your setup, or just the forums?

I'm not out of a job, but would be more than willing to code or help code a simple MySQL & PHP interface for adding & tracking jobs as well as people here looking for jobs, and where.

Thanks Entity (Rob)

The Volunteer Staff is growing, thank you. Better Web coding than I can possibly do has already taken shape on the HTML page.
A large task at hand is to glean the great info like PC_Freak just graciously offered a couple of notes above for a good hands on hardworking IT tech and get it into a Regional clickable link directly to the job available. We will also do the same thing for people looking for jobs. What area they are in etc.

Has anyone in the Upstate South Carolina area responded yet to that job offer?

Before Your Interview
[*]take the time to research the prospective company - if they have a website, perfect. study who they are and what they do. do you see any key words that are unfamiliar? I applied for a job that produces online teaching tools and content. They used acronyms like SCORM and ADL. By googling those names, I was able to research deeper into the company and had material on which to base my cover letter and talking points for an interview. Doing research got me my first and second interview (1 of 3 candidates, narrowed down to). I'm now waiting in pins and needles to see if they want me. But I could see they were impressed by my level of detail and eagerness to learn what they knew. EDIT: I was their second choice. The other person got the job because he had contacts in the same business area the company was pursuing. Yet they appreciated my knowledge and interest in their line of work. While it got me the runner-up no prize, studying may pay off for you.

[*]mock interviews - get a friend and go out for beers in a quiet place somewhere(it's not necessary to go out but it might help you to relax and polish your interviewing skills). have your friend play the role of interviewer. by researching the company, you might gain some perspective of what they are looking for in a qualified candidate. Also, look for some boilerplate job questionaires that will help you with an interview baseline (what to normally expect from an interview).

[*] scenarios - you could apply this to the previous bulleted item. Ask yourself, "What has the most difficult part or problem of your last job and how did you go about to solve it?" "Did you solve it?" "What things did you like about you job?" "What did you not?" "If you did X + Y in your old job, can you do you X- Y in this job?" Think ahead. Anticipate as much as you can, topic-wise, before ever writing that cover letter or going to the interview. Make sure you can answer these questions fully and succinctfully in less than 5 minutes.

[*] more info later.

I just lost my job a month ago. Figured I should stop by this thread to see whats happening. Worked for 3 years doing internet + commercial webhosting server support. Company decided to move all the support staff out of Milwaukee, WI into East Lansing MI. They like having the neverending supply of labor out of the college.

I am hoping to start a small consulting business with a fellow ex-employee. That seems to be what the future holds for IT work.

I would be interested in finding more about ur plans csaddict. I live in the Chicago area and work as a consultant, but work has been pretty scarce. This is the first project I've had in 2 months....

Wow, I like the concept behind the site you all created. There might be some serious dough there!

As for me, I got an offer from a small marketing company last week but turned it down. So, still looking...

Just my luck I was so excited about this new consultant job I have that I have completed the assignments they gave me a week ahead of schedule...D'oh

I got called yesterday about a Linux Sys Admin job but it was way lower than what I was looking for in salary. Talking about 20K difference, although it does have full tution reimbursement so perhaps I could return to school. But my recruiter said she will see how much they are willing to budge on salary but since its a University I don't know how much they will budge.

Just wanted to let you guys know....

There are many jobs available....

Suprisingly, I got a call from Lockheed Martin today. They wanted to hire me. I told them I'd call them back but I'm probably gonna decline because Northrup Grumman gave me a great offer.

Anyway just watned to let you all know. Keep on looking and eventually things will happen.

Hi Damiano,

Did you post this in the New York region on the jobnetworking.org site yet?
