Well it should be anyway. In most countries it is not. I think the UK is the exception - they have the cameras well marked and unmanned.

While true, who's going to pay for it? The US is a very spread out country, the cost of installing them at enough frequency for it to actually work would be immense at best. It's not really going to cut down on the amount of law enforcement you going to employ either. They would be effective in areas that have chronic issues but in general they just won't work in this country. If you just put up a handful it will take a week for everyone to know where they are and they'll just slow down in those areas.

The problem with speed cameras is who is to say only speed is being monitored.

People are too quick to give up our liberties and freedoms to try and punish the 'other guy'.

Yet in another thread they are all crying out that some marine that didn't know the gun laws is facing a mandatory 2 year minimum sentence for trying to check his gun and doing the 'right thing'.

They record our speed, but not the offenders. I've never seen a radar device that is portable that has a camera built into it. I'd be all for it if it was an option, it would make my life a lot easier.

It may vary from location to location but here all the money goes to the school system and the courts. The city and department get squat, there is no financial incentive to write tickets.

Never been to AZ? They have signs warning of photo enforcement.

I was pulled over the other week because the officer noticed that the license plate frame on my car was partially covering up the license plate tag - he couldn't tell if they were expired.

I'd bet if you look up the laws, you'd see that there's something stating that the license plate cannot be covered or otherwise obstructed. 😉

How would he know that the LEO was following for 13 miles. Unless the LEO stated so.

Speeds can be easily matched within a mile if the LEO was moving; 2 miles if starting from a dead stop.

Most likely scenario:
The GF was moving well past the speed limit
Caught the LEO attention
He caught up and paced her
She continued driving in what was considered a reckless manner.

Well then you and/or you're girlfriend are idiots for not noticing it. If you make the decision to break the law it's on you to try and not get caught. I know if I decide to speed (usually 5-10 over, conditions permitting) I am very careful about slowing down when I see any type of black/blue/grey dodge charger, crown vic, taurus, or mustang. It is not that hard to spot an unmarked, whether they are behind, beside, or in front of you. Any decent driver is always scanning the road.

Don't know what the point of this thread is. You do the crime, you pay the price. I'm no angel myself, but I am very aware of the possible consequences of my actions. I get caught, its my fault and I won't be looking for sympathy or help on fighting it.

Most states have reciprocal agreements where violations are sent back to the drivers home state. Depending on the where the OP is from that may work. The downside is if they go back and the OP is driving and gets stopped there could be an big issue if the GF's name is checked for any reason, she will be going to jail for skipping court.

I find undercover cops to be easy to spot, just look for suspicious antennas and an unusually low hanging rear.

The inside lights can also be easy to spot because they tend to give themselves away by having a large profile on the windshield.

Yes I actually pay attention to cop cars, which is why I've been warned 4 times for different things in the same town without any tickets to my name.

She did speed, she did change lanes without signaling and those are only the offenses you admit to. There were probably others. If she had been driving the speed limit there would have been no trouble and likely if she signaled before changing lanes she would not have stood out enough to attract attention. Thinking cops are out to get you is childish and pathetic. If you think troopers are dicks don't give them anything to pull you over for. The *state* let its contract lapse, so all the fixed cameras are gone from the interstates. What remains are the fixed cameras on city streets owned by the cities as well as a few mobile vans. In any case they tend to be fairly well marked in the Phoenix area. The Tucson ones are not nearly as well marked.
