Hah. Well, whatever you say man. You seem like a swiftech loyalist though. How long have you been using swiftech stuff? They were big alpha competitors and then they got really expensive and then thermalright came on the same then blew them all out of the water for price performance. The heatsink industry is a very volatile one..
Have fun with your rig. You can always leave transcoding going overnight.
That all being said, I still don't understand why DV is your hobby but you haven't invested in a hardware sollution yet. Can't you get conversion cards that will do the job faster than a P4 3.2 can, while at the same time being carriable over to your next rig? That seems a far sounder investment than a new, upgrade use then toss kind of rig.

What's your budget? Matrox has stuff in the 500$ rig, about as much as a CPU+Mobo+RAM+Videocard upgrade. If you could skip on one interval, you could probably get one and it'd make more sense since you could carry it over to your next system. Then again, when you build your next system, most rigs will probably be able to eclipse it.
But the RT2000 came out years ago. Still haven't bought one?![]()

so ok, i was thinking about doing the whole p4 2.6c/ic7 route.. but now i'm thinking about going with a similar athlon setup and using the $ i save for a video card.
if i'm not going to overclock (at least in the near future), how big of a performance difference is there between the two? with and without the better video card i can get w/the athlon (otherwise i'll be using a radeon7000 i have already)
edit: just noticed the price diff would only be around $80.. i can't really get much of a vid card for that can i? i mean, prob better than radeon7000, but i might as well wait until have more and get like a radeon9600 pro

Athlon XP 2500+ from NewEgg
Asus A7N8X-X from NewEgg
Corsair XMS Platinum PC3200 512MB from NewEgg
Swiftech MCX-462V from NewEgg
Koutech 2-Port IEEE1394 Card from NewEgg
Panaflo M1A 92mm from Sidewinder Computers
I was going to get Kingston but the PC3200 model had lots of problems so I settled on Corsair since everyone here seems to think well of it. Not to mention that it has fairly low latencies but I might be able to get it lower.
And of course the Athlon 2500+ will be going to 2.2GHz once it gets here.
Should be arriving Monday or Tuesday! Drool...

The difference between a 2.6C and a 2500+ is just 90$ in itself.
Combine that with a 75$ NForce motherboard and you've saved enough money to buy yourself a Ti4200, which has many times the performance of your Radeon 7000.

but why get a swiftech hsf? it cost $10 more and is less efficent then the thermalright slk900a
