Had a couple buddies of mine buy one (each) a few years ago. They went in together, and got a 500 round can of eastern bloc (soviet era) surplus ammo, but couldn't tell you from where.

The funniest thing was when they got the ammo, they had to figure out how to open the can without damaging the ammo inside! Guess they both thought it'd be like a sardine can, with a key on it that you could turn to peel a strip of metal off to open it! 😉

I've never understood the attraction of old WWI/II bolt action rifles. A friend of mine had a Swedish Mauser and it is one of the ugliest, crudest weapons I've ever seen. He was banging on the wall of a shed with it once and the fucking thing went off.

bolded is why i like them. i like guns, i like history. i can own a piece of history. I also own a Lee Enfield SMLE No.1 Mk. III.

For starters.....In the day, they were exceptional shooters and still are. 2nd, why in the hell was your friend banging on a wall (or anything for that matter) with a loaded weapon?????????
I wouldn't say they were crude. They are simple by today's standard. Simplicity and crudeness aren't really hand-in-hand.
What do you expect from a weapon developed in 1889 and finally field going into production in 1892? It was used well into the 1960's.

I need to convince my wife to let me buy a MN ... such a beautiful gun.

Is your wife anti-gun or just frugal? If she's just frugal, I'm sure you can just sell off one of your toys to invest in a Mosin Nagant. Electronic gadgets depreciated exponentially, while guns if kept properly will maintain much of their value for longer than you'll be able to use them. In many cases, the gun will actually appreciate in value, although with a massively produced gun such as the M91/30, you can't really bank on that.

I bought a $89 one at a show a few years ago.
I took it apart, sanded and refinished the stock.
It looks pretty good. I don't care about collectability on a $89 gun.

i dont know where to start with that statement...

I got of those about 8-10 years ago. It came with a big can of FMJ rounds (I had troubling opening the can too).

But I'm with Zenmervolt about the recoil. My shoulder gets black-and-blue if I fire too many rounds. And mine is very loud. I took it to the range and when I fired everyone stopped and looked at me. 🙂

Great gun for the money.

You don't understand the attraction of old rifles because you have retarded friends? Who the hell bangs on a wall with a loaded gun?
