It is fair that US want Europe to increase military spending, but why they want us to increase to 5% while US is at 3,3% seems a bit off. Also I'm sure it is going to be focused on buying European equipment.

Vance is a grasping dead eyed motherfucker that I somehow hold in even worse regard than Trump. Somebody who absolutely knows better but would put his own wife in a camp like that if it ment taking another rung up the ladder. My thoughts about what should happen to such people are not fit for posting.

The "religion dispatches" article the BSky post links to is interesting. Insightful point about the appropriation of these sites to a "Christian" narrative (of 'redemption through suffering'). That seems to be what Vance was engaging in. And "inspired" is a very odd word to use in the context (as opposed to 'changed' or 'horrified' or even 'truamatised'), but to be fair it's not clear that Vance himself literally used or implied that word - that might just be the reporter's take on his remarks, hard to say.

Main point being he does all that performative visit stuff, then comes back to preside over the construction of a concentration camp.

Trump reshaping and appointing himself the head of the Kennedy Center, the proverbial national display of art and culture that we consider important, that represents us, might be the most terrifying signal and, to all of those that can read and have been paying attention, the most direct act of isntalling his new Nazi regime.

This is exactly the kind of thing that Nazis do: co-opt the nation's art and cultural identity, reshape it towards your Nazi propaganda goals, and just watch as the sheep fall in line or simply don't care. This is how and when critical thinking and actual, 1st Amendment freedoms are killed.

Any fucking terrorist cvnt that voted for these full-frontal fascists should go fucking hang themselves. They have brazenly agreed to turn the USA into the new world fascist super power. Fuck all of you.
 
Yeah, that taking over an arts venue was up there with renaming the Gulf of Mexico, in self-aggrandizing pettiness. I was thinking less about the Nazis, though, and more that it's the sort of thing despotic (and slightly mad) rulers of Central Asian Republics do. Given that the result seems to be that performers are all cancelling their planned appearances there, presumably it will now become a 24/7 venue for the likes of Ted Nugent, Hulk Hogan, and Kid Rock?

The good news is that they are horribly inept and uncool. Kennedy Center having Kid Rock perform for the 50th time or whatever isn't going to generate the kind of cultural currency the right so desperately wants.

Trump supporters are mystified and upset that winning the election didn't win them the cultural war too. Look at the responses to the Super Bowl halftime show. Black people were on stage and the crowd loved it and they were so mad lol.

Yea it means that in 10 years US leverage is gone and there is going to be not another near peer on the world stage but an actual peer.
But this is trump level IQ so it makes sense... local short sighted transactions and no big picture.

I’ve confirmed members were alerted in a separate email that Coast Guard Direct Access system is down until 2/19. However, the email did not give a reason for the system outage (which we now know to be the data breach). It’s my understanding that not all members received notice of the data breach.
