well looks like we slowed down somewhat yesterday.. not necessarily a bad thing! get as many friends as you can cracking with us! don't force em though, cause then it's not a fun thing!

well we know that we will over run slashdot.org no matter wut, because we are running at about 2x faster than them. but DPC is running 2x faster than us i believe. I think we can pull this together and slowly raise our rate and keep DPC away from US!!!!! I am starting to do my part. I will add 4 comps in the next 3 weeks. all above 750 and they are either an athlon or tbird. Hope it helps! =)

cmon peepz!!! DPC is suck!!!!!!!

in fact, I think that the BEST way to join TA is the EASIEST.

join a miniteam. Russ's TA-Cube, and the TA-Federation are just two of our miniteams. if you ask in the distributed.net forums, you can join in just 5 steps (or less!).

in fact, I'm seriously considering joining a mini team, becuase I personally want to see more competition within the team (allowing for more people wanting more speed AFTER we become 1st overall).

I'm adding #8 to my herd later today 😉

'Course, 4 of them are lowly P166s, but hey, every bit counts 😀

Well fellas, I just added a 1GHz Classic Athlon to the fray for us. It's on 24x7 connected to a T1 line at work. I am also going to add my 700MHz Athlon Classic at home when I get there tonight. Hope this helps up overtake the #1 spot!

thanks for the extra power man!

ahh I think I found out why both teams went up about 600 thousand blocks or so.. take a look here. it's a thread from the distributed computing forum here on Anandtech.

I have another question. Does RC5 benefit from SMP? I have a dual proc server sitting here that is not being used for anything. It is dual P3 500MHz Xeons with 1MB L2 cache each.

YES! RC5 uses dual precessors. My computer at home is a dually celeron BP6 @600mhz... it just starts two crunchers...

PLEASE add it to your herd!! 🙂

We would be happy to see your stats soar!

One of the subteams(The Federation) did a nice lil' flush. DPC found out about this, and did one of their own. I think that's the way it is.

No, all the extra packets are from a couple days back, I got my CUSL2 and squeezed an extra 100Mhz out of me 700E 🙂

Well how happy would it make everyone if i said i was gonna be dumping about 10,000+ blocks later on tonight when i get back home? 🙂 Enjoy

10000?

hmm.. YES! That's more then half of what I've cracked ever since I joined!

ahh hello Budman. hows your hangover! LOL...

If someone can tell me how to "time" the client (make it shut off on certain days), I can get permission to use it on a 1 GHz PIII and dual 933 PIII.

The computers are used for video encoding and can't have the client running on the days they are in use.

RC% has a low priority by default. That means that if something else is requesting CPU cycles, it doesn't run. It only runs when there are spare cycles. 🙂 So, if they are video encoding, then RC5 doesn't run. Make sense? Hope that helps.

Freeze,

I tried that same expaination, but they run task manager to monitor the cpu when they encode, and with the client running it's always 100%.

Stark, if you are using win2k then it is easy to tell what programs are using what% of the cpu. When I do something that is CPU intensive I can go to the task manager and see that RC5 goes to 0% until the other program is done running. You should try to do that while they are watching. I don't know if win98 does this, haven't used it in the longest time.

Stark, With rc5 running your cpu usage will always be 100%.

When your encoding program runs it uses all it needs & the left over cpu cycles are used by RC5,it will not take anything away from your encoding,it will only use unused cycles.

I hear you budman.

The problem is, when streaming video over the internet one of the key indicators of trouble is how hard the cpu is working. If there's a problem with the internet connection (not getting data out fast enough), the processor will usually max out for 5-30 seconds before realencoder crashes. With the taskmanager showing 100% the whole time, they lose it as a warning signal.

You can set RC5 to not run when another program is running...
so in that part on the .ini file put taskman.exe (is that what it is) and any other program you want.

What a nice feeling.. put in 1200 points up last night.. and still climbing.
DPC is SUCK.

By the way I contribute to TA but I am not under a team.. considering forming one though.

is there a way to remotely initate it on a network? then I will have a better time load balenceing.
