even at default speed with default voltage the temp is 42C at idle.

3g@1.42v, the temp is 45-47c at idle.

Any idea is it normal?

Its fine. Get a better HSF, but you are OK, and not damaging anything

That's normal.

I've noticed the Optys run a lot hotter.

And 3 GHz on the stock cooler?! :Q
Very nice.

Use CnQ or RMClock (see sig) to get your idle temps down. What cooler are you using?

That's a great overclock! What is your stepping (OEM?) and where/when did you get the chip?

damn!!!! I cant get 2.52GHz lol. I musta got a bum chip, only able to overclock 40% lol. Thats crap! Anyways, what is your load temp? I've heard you really dont want it to go past around 55C.

I don't play game. But Super Pai 32M gives temp like 58-60c @3g.

Stock AMD Heatpipe cooler is actually very good (~XP90), but if yours is running @ 60 C then you should get a Scythe Ninja or Thermalright XP-120 with a panaflo capable of decent CFMs.

Yeah, you gotta run dual prime.
I've seen too many occasions where Super Pi 32M passes, but not dual prime 95.

What case are you using? Are you running any intake and exhaust fans? Air flow is going to be key. What tempurature is your ambient at? What is the temp in your room? If you are that hot, i would guess that either you live in a desert, have very cold blood, or need to better your airflow. If you dont have a good exhaust fan, i like the silverstone 120 mm 150cfm fan for the rear exhaust, and i like to put a side intake right above or a little to the right of the CPU, and i used a 92mm from vantec, called the tornado for that one. My load temp on my cpu from my sig is 31c. Used to be 48 before i put the fans in.

You really need to bring that oc down to like 2.6 until you get a new HS. @ 60c I'm surprised that it is stable running super pi. Don't even try prime95, with those temps you are really going to cause damage on that cpu.

AND 45-47C IDLE IS NOT GOOD AT ALL

Im using the stock 4 heatpipe cooler on my chip.

Open up the side of your case and see what the temps are. My bet is your airflow is bad or your sensor is off. You might want to reseat the HSF. See how warm to the touch it is. if it feels really hot then your chip is putting off alot of heat but its not the IHS or the thermal grease. If your chip is running hot and the HSF feels really cool then its probably your IHS or thermal grease.

Very good post for someone with less than 20 posts ;-) you might want to answer his questions.

I wish mine will play at even 2.8 lol

dual prime and/or dual super-pi craps out at 2.65 :(

my temps on a semi quiet with coolers in sig are

29-30*C idle, 47-48*C on Load

I do not know about this stock cooler, i have it on a sempron in my other room and it gets pretty hot... maybe i need to sit it again.

lol, mine can play up to 3.0 GHz, but it takes too much volts that I don't even want to...

2.8 GHz @ 1.4v :).

39 idle, 49 load.

92mm nexus real silent fan w/ xp-90 (yeah. 27 cfm.)

Lol you're not alone. I got an opty 165 expecting it to overclock like crazy on my Asus A8n32-sli Deluxe, and Zalman CNPS9500 (about the same performance as water cooling). Boy was i wrong, I made it to 2200MHz and it crapped out. Threw it in my dad's rig and stole his opty 144. Oc'ed the 144 to 2808MHz easly in excactly the same rig, and the 165 is running at stock in his comp.

Temps are normal, they run hot

CCBBE ~ CCB1E, there's hardly a difference. 1 good CPU doesn't make 1 stepping better than the other.
