I'm gonna get an MX1000 now. I bought a Logitech MediaPlay mouse b/c I heard such good review for it (and it was also about $20 after rebate), but thing is too small and it eats my rechargeable batteries at a rate of about a set every 5 days. Piece of sh!t.

I'll get it from Amazon for the $53 price and used the $10 promo coupon that I got for doing a survey

It still uses an optical recognition system. The main difference is the light source.

I'm going to stay with my MX Duo, which I picked up brand new for $25 after rebates

Actually mine was free since my mx700 broke and they send you a free mx 1000 then when you call them.

Don't even have to send the mx700 in so.... :D

I still just use a trackball for my mouse.

Been about 7 years since I've had it and not planning on changing anytime soon.

And the funny thing is...I've had the same damn mouse pad since 1996. Still works! :D

I go old skool

Too heavy and the charger is a POS.

NEVER let it go down until the red light comes on. Do it several times and there goes your battery.

Also absent is the presence of sufficient protection for the Li Ion cell power source in case of charger malfunction and or device malfunction. If you're seen the videos of what can happen (Li Ion Explosion) you may think twice before considering such a product.

I will not have one onboard because of this.

And how!

The MX1000 IS an optical mouse. Instead of using an incoherent LED they use a coherent diode laser. Big whoopitee-doo! Perhaps we should start calling them LED mice.

The 3 year warranty covers the battery.

That's really the only thing that bothers me after using a mx700, it seemed to light for some time.

Yeah. I was interested by the thread title, wanting to know what the next step in mouse evolution was. Didn't realize that there wasn't any evolution until I found out the MX1000 is just another optical mouse.
