which is better for games? opteron or a64?
From my reading the skt 939 opterons are pretty much no different than the standard A64 from a design standpoint. They do have the 1mb of l2 cache (like the SD and Toledo cores) and are supposedly held to higher testing standards before being ok'ed as they are server chips and not consumer chips. In reality the performance difference is pretty small with the opteron's probably edging out the comparable Venice due to the cache.
However, preliminary reports show some HUGE overclock potential with the opteron chips, this has something to do with the more rigid testing and higher standards. There are people getting 2.8 - 3ghz on STOCK cooling, which is crazy. We shall see when I get mine...

Aren't the Opterons also multiplier-unlocked like the FX series? If they are, this could also be a factor that helps achieve the crazy OCs.

Well, I think when it comes to changing prices its mostly about supply and demand. As long as AMD keeps producing the chips and the demand doesn't really increase, the prices will continue dropping.

I see that Monarch has DFI Infinity motherboards. For only $20 than the ASRock, anybody that wants a great overclocking board that is budget should keep the Infinity on their short list.
