Not really. No hereditary aristocracy has ever given up power without either being exterminated or facing the threat of certain extermination.
Charles 2nd is a good example of that.

That said the French definitely got a bit carried away with the guillotine!

They got filled with blood lust. They were down to killing people only remotely related to members of the ruling class. They were tossing minor parish priests into the holds of defunct cargo vessels, no food or water and then nailing the hold shut. They lost their minds.
 
I've always respected the Royal Family.
They've held their dignity throughout the ages and no doubt for generations to come.
And one thing that you must admire, they're great tree climbers.

I watched some of it on YouTube…mostly because it was a historic event that I had never seen. Looked like an exhausting day for a pair of 75 yr olds 😂
