This has nothing to do with the homeless guy's comments. It has everything to do with the witch hunt against free speech going on in the media right now.

They've said things 1000x worse than what they just got suspended for and nothing happened. Now after this stupid Imus bullsh*t, do they get suspended.

When you mention free speech in this context, it makes me wonder if you know what free speech means. You are free to say what you want, but you are not free from the consequences of saying it. If you say things that are hateful, there may be consequences.

It sounds to me like they weren't suspended because of the original comment, but because of subsequent comments that indicated that they weren't sincere in their apology.

They had a homeless guy on who was talking about having sex with Condeliza rice and the first lady. You might not find it funny or appropriate but XM should not have any sensorship.

No, he was talking about RAPE. Don't play it down.

Key word highlighted

So true. It's just talk. How can it hurt someone? They don't have to listen. People are just so sensitive about everything. I actually don't think it is "people", it's the media

and the people who were "offended" (this retard) were listening for the SOLE PURPOSE of finding something offensive to get them suspended for

If this homeless guy was talking about buggering little boys and girls, I think there would be a different response from our "1st Amendment guardians" in ATOT. Rape is a violent crime, I don't blame XM (a publicly owned company that DOES get revenue from sponsors) for dumping these asshats to the curb for a month. Maybe they will think twice about what makes for compelling talk radio.

CENSORSHIP.
Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

How about instead of free speech, I say "freedom to say things that may offend people on a show that's main attraction is offensive humor"

More of an observation than a complaint: they couldn't have sounded legitimate in their apology, considering they made fun of Imus (even said they would never have done the same in his situation) for his doing so. I wouldn't want them to be sincere, frankly.

Why should they have to think twice about what makes for compelling talk radio? They have the most amount of listeners out of everything on XM doing exactly what they were suspended for... sounds like compelling talk radio to me.

I understand what you're trying to say, but it simply doesn't work. They HAVE drawn a line somewhere, as 'far back' as it may be - and they haven't talked about raping kids...

As for the comment on sponsors, read what I've said in previous posts if that's how you really feel.

The only people listening to them at the time it happened were people who paid to hear them. No one who didn't want to hear it could hear it. Who could be offended? Their listeners?

Hopefully, someday, one of these shock jocks will get a homeless person on the air, who'll say he'd like to whack Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. 😉

What did O&A say yesterday that made XM so angry? The only thing I can think is that they implied that they had no problems with the homeless guy and didn't feel like it was an error in judgement to let the guy on during a live, unscripted show.

This was actually last Friday from what I understand.

I haven't heard it but from what I've read they egged the guy on as he was talking about raping Condi Rice and others to get him to talk more of his lunatic fantasies. So, it isn't necessarily something they said but the guest they brought on and the direction they steered him. That and their apparent refusal at being contrite over the incident.

Link to the audio of the segment.

Warning: Extremely Vulgar Language. This is the link, first reported by Breitbart.tv, that led to the controversy. On Wednesday's show XM Shock Jocks Opie and Anthony engage in discussion about forced sex with the Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and others.

When rape is compelling, we have a problem. Rape is not an abstract concept - it's violence at its worst.

If those comments had been directed at your mother or your sister, you'd be singing a different tune. But when it's someone you don't know and don't have to look in the face, it's humor. That's seriously phucked up.

I think it's funny anyway. That's not the point. What you think is funny or anyone else is purely subjective. Just because you find it bad does not mean others do. It's a stupid joke.

Speech which threatens bodily harm (e.g. rape) is not protected by the constitution. That's called assault.

Freedom of speech does not prohibit you from getting fired from your job. Especially when your speech has a direct impact on the company's bottom line.

If they want to suspend them, it's their business and they can do what they want. You as a subscriber can fire XM, it's your right if you disagree with what XM is doing. Personally I would never pay for radio when there are tons of stations out there for free.

And the fact that you can treat rape as a "stupid joke" is quite frightening to me. I hope you never have first- or second- hand experience with it.

It's an out of line comment. I don't promote rape but comedy that is blatantly out of line makes me laugh. It is not necessarily the actual comment but the fact that it was said at all is what makes me laugh.

Rape is never funny unless it involves sexual predators getting a taste of their own medicine in prison.

Again, all a matter of opinion.

If you don't mind tons of commercials and the same songs being play every other minute. Personally, I don't mind spending $13 a month for some uncensor entertainment. I have not listen to regular radio since I sub to Sat Radio a year ago.

And that's what scares me: that you care more about laughing than you do about the actual comment.
