IBM's Feature Tool has a temp monitor for the 75GXP hard drive - let's hear your temperatures!

Mine was 24C after running a bunch of benchmarks.

whats Feature tool? 24c sounds a bit low i would have thought, especially for the 75GXP.

IBM Feature Tool is a DOS based utility that allows you to adjust acoustic management, power management, and cache settings on the IBM HDs.

FOr the 75GXP there's a temp monitoring feature.

I got 24C with a single fan HDD cooler and decent airflow.

Is it good for the HD though?

Unless your room was hovering around 40F I can't see how that is possible. I think the thermal probe is as reliable the 75GXP series.

LOL

24C isn't that low

If I touch my 75GXP, its not very hot - maybe lukewarm like my casing near the uncooled areas.

24C is about 75F which is not much about room temperature. Even with good airflow, your case will be above ambiant once you factor in the heat of the CPU, power supply, video, audio, LAN, and other drives all in a closed enviroment.

I usually put little credibility in such low readings. Don't even begin to mention AMD TBird temperature readings.

My case temp is just a tad over ambient.

My AMD CPU peaks at 44C - this is 1.4 @ 1.6 GHz (11 x 145) with 1.775V VCore

I don't see how they're not reliable, With a Delta 8k and 1.850V I got the same peak as HardOCP - 45C (SK6 heatsink).

The #s are consistent at least, I know that doesn't make them reliable.

IBM Feature tool said the op temp range for the 75GXP was 10C to 60C.

24C was right in there.

Without my HDD cooler, the 75GXP was nice and toasty after 5 minutse - i know becuase I tested it outside of the case on another computer - it started to make the plastic bubblewrap soft after a few minutes.

Now I can run this thing overnight, and doing a lot of disk acessing w/o it getting lukewarm.

So 24C to me seems about right - it feels the same as my SK6 under 100% load - slightly lukewarm ;)

Remember, w/o a heatsink the AMD 1.4 goes to 390C in a SECOND (390C measured via Raytek Laser thermometer)

Ahhh you have a HDD cooler. That makes more sense. All of the 75GXPs that I have get toasty after a little while even with good airflow. A nice high CFM bay cooler usually does the trick.

Yeah it's a tiny single fan HDD Cooler with the wave platform that you bolt under the HDD.

The fan advertises 19cfm? of airflow

But I also have a lot of air being pulled thru the HDD by the exhaust fans.

I'm trying to keep it cool because of the 75GXP problem.

Is there a fan next to it?

I put my 75GB 75GXP outside of the case and it got burning hot after a few minutes.
