I have just finished building my computer. All top of the line: Pentium 4 3Ghz 800FSB; Radeon 9800; Asus P4C800; 1 GB RAM; etc. Everything boots up correctly and I can get into the BIOS and everything is detected. Then when I try to install windows xp it gives me "Line (random number) of the INF file \i386\txtsetup.sif is invalid. Setup can not continue."

Sometimes I will get lucky and it will pass that screen and start loading all the necessary files for setup. When it does this it will stop on one of the files and say it is corrupted and setup must quit.

I don't know what to think. I have tried installing Windows with multiple drives, but it gives me the same error messages.

These are the things I would be looking at:

1. Possible IDE corruption occuring (CD source and HD need to be checked). Are you using rounded cables? Cables maybe loose/bent too severly/etc?

2. Possible that jumpers on CD/HD not set right.

3. Possible damaged media (cd might not be good).

4. Possible BIOS update required. Check Asus homepage for recent bios updates and the issues they resolve.

5. Make sure that the bios settings for the IDE devices are set reasonably. If "Auto" features can be set to "manual" and you know the numbers do this also.

These would be the things I would check first.

Cheers,

Andy

All I had to do was update the BIOS.

It's nice when things get solved so easily - not as common as you might think!

Good luck,
