See, now you can't call Opera stupid because of bsr's excellent knowledge of Opera he helped you fix it. I'd like IE6 do that!!

IE6 doesn't need to do it because IT F***ING WORKS RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE WITHOUT HAVING TO COPY DLLs INTO PLUG-IN FOLDERS!!!!!

"Basic knowledge"?!?!? That is NOT basic knowledge AND if they don't need to include the DLLs!!! All they need is the stupid plug-in detection routine to be AUTOMATIC and to locate the fooking DLLs. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

If may make your little geek hearts go atwitter to "know" how to kludge together some fundamental multi-media support, but what if Microsoft and Netscape required you to do the same thing to make their browsers work?!?!?!?!? You guys would be screaming, "M$ is teh sUx0rZ!!!" at the top of your feeble lungs, but when Opera makes you do it, you just grab your ankles and squeal like a pig gladly!!

Pathetic.:|

(BTW: Add the inability to check AOL webmail to the things that Opera is baffled by.)

AOL web mail? Dang, man...maybe you *should* stick with IE. :p

Don't we already scream "J$ is teh sUx0rZ"? Also, don't say "feeble lungs" sight unseen..after five years in the USAF Aux (cadet Captain now), I have a halfway decent command voice..not exactly feeble. ;)

What's IE's file size? What's Opera's file size? There you have it - maybe that's why Opera doesn't haven automatic plugin detection thingy.

WOW there buddy, For one I wasnt trying to insult your inteligents. And dont take your anger out on opera (or me), if you dont understand it then dont use it, no one is forcing you to use it.... Oh and IE is slower then opera on a broadband connection, so thats one of the best reasons to go with opera (aside from the endless list of other reasons opera is better)

HEY THIS IS MY THREAD!!! Be nice, take your PMS and vent it out somewhere else like off topic. :) bsr is totally right,no one is forcing you to use Opera. Opera 7 is much faster on a broadband connection and is so much faster than IE6 in all retrospects. If you don't like it then fine :| BTW, I just got my brother to switch to Opera 7. He hasn't told me anything yet but I think he'll like it later on. :D

CadetLee babbled: AOL web mail? Dang, man...maybe you *should* stick with IE.

I was checking my g/f's account for her cuz she's got the flu and didn't go into work today.

What's IE's file size? What's Opera's file size? There you have it - maybe that's why Opera doesn't haven automatic plugin detection thingy.

Gee...if you're what's in our military now, then maybe we shouldn't invade Iraq.

Hey, Brainiac - hit Alt+P to open Preferences, select Multimedia, go to the second area called "Media types" and click the "Find plug-ins..." button. Watch it scan and associate a ton of stuff with QuickTime, etc.

Why can't this be automatic? Why are you making excuses for sloppy design?

On to bsr: For one I wasnt trying to insult your inteligents.

Do you mean "intelligence"? Of course, you immediately contradict yourself with...

if you dont understand it then dont use it, no one is forcing you to use it.

I was able to figure out how to manually set up the proxies to get around my company's firewalls and autoconfig scripts, but as you twerps don't want to acknowledge, the MM handling is a fvcking joke!

Geek snobs like you get all Jeff K. at times like these, but you miss the point: People will not abandon so-so products (in your opinion) like AOL or M$ apps when they've got to jump thru hoops to get BASIC SH!T to work!!! The fact that Opera is trying to be a $39 product makes it all the more a failure compared to other browsers that are free.

Get over yourselves and look at the Big Picture - it's not about you're childish needs to be superior on a BBS, it's about REAL COMPETITION for established market leaders and Opera is FAILING. People will try it, see it's half-baked and half-assed and then stick with bad ol' IE, cuz at least IT WORKS AS ADVERTISED!!!

But, what do you care? You're l337 h4X0r3z and get a little thrill flaming people with honest questions about products.

(Now, you'll excuse me, but I've got to move to Canada, cuz the Air Force has clearly done away with any sorts of standards in who they let in and it shouldn't be long before Grand Fenwick invades.)

While yes, I do like Opera, I like it for linux. And they didnt have 7.1 for linux the last time I checked.

For Windows, IE is king. Why, with one little pop-up stopper I can kill all pop-ups just the same with IE. About the only thing I miss with opera is tabbed browsing and the click to fill in forms thingy. But to get those I have to sacrifice usability on some websites. So its a small tradeoff, but I would say that if I could use IE on linux then I would stick with it mostly because it is streamlined alot better (and no, I dont want to have to scan for plugins when I am used to being lazy and just letting it re-direct me :D)

[edit]

DefRef, I agree with what you are saying, but have you ever thought of switching to decaff? :p

Only on the internet can someone judge someone else without knowing them..only on the internet does someone blindly insult others...if you don't like Opera, don't use it. Simple as that.

Just a tip - Read, Comprehend, Post. The USAF Aux is *not* the United States Air Force. It is a non-combatant organization who just happens to do 85% of the Air Force's inland search and rescue...no, I am not in the military. However, if you happen to be on a crashed aircraft somewhere around here, there's a decent chance I'll be looking for you. No insults, ok? :)

bsr,

Don?t worry about this DefRef character; it?s like trying to talk to an 8-year-old spoiled brat!

Don?t believe for a second that he came in here with the intention to solve his O7 problems. Rather, he entered this thread with one purpose and one purpose only! TO BASH O7!

DefRef is either a Microsoft employee, or has NO basic intelligence of a computer (I believe it?s the later, because every MS tech I?ve talked to agree O7 is a step forward in browser technology)!

You would think someone trying to learn how to use a particular software would check out the developers website, maybe looking at the support page?! Obviously he does not know how to or does not want to do such a thing. All I?ve seen him do is insult people who applaud O7 for it?s technological advancement in the web browser sector.

Everyone who has tried to help this baboon, eventual gets verbally assaulted, I being one of them. He even accused me of not explaining to him in great detail, or that I was to vague. However I only started becoming that way once I realized his true motives, and his actions in this thread only confirm what I suspected.

I?m surprised he hasn?t mentioned anything about the bookmarks in this thread, because if you take a look here (it's two pages) you?ll notice that?s his biggest complaint! However he has yet to mention it in this thread, which once again explains his true motives, because once someone explains how to do something he can?t complain about it any more, and looks for something else to complain about.

So again don?t pay much attention to this fool, he obviously has an agenda, and has no intention of learning, or any intention of wanting help from other AT members.

I love Opera. But there's a couple things I liked in v6.xx that have changed since v7. The hot list - only requires a single mouse click in v7 to open a folder, v6 needed a double click. The status bar - in v6 was auto-hiding, in v7 its permanent and once you remove it, there's no easy way to get it back (atleast I haven't found one). In v7, when you view an image wider than the screen, there's no scroll bar, you have to wait until the image is completely loaded.

None the less, I love Opera. If Opera was a girl, I would marry her.
