Opera 12 Released!!

Do remember to turn on hardware acceleration, and disable smooth scrolling.

Haha, I would do the exact opposite. I tried hardware acceleration and like Firefox, it changes the way fonts look and I hate it.

Smooth scrolling, on the other hand, Opera does it better than any other browser I've tried.

Oops, was not clear earlier. If you do turn HWA on, then I find it better to disable smooth scrolling.

I prefer smooth scrolling off all the time though.

I feel there will be a 12.01 soon. Seen a few crashes already.

i have opera 12.00 32bit.

would 64bit make it faster? and how? also if switch to 64 bit, how can i keep my existing customs button locations and settings?

when i used the 64 beta it imported everything just fine, however i cant seem to find 64 final anywhere

Just auto updated,Opera my favourite browser 🙂 .

Btw this is how to enable hardware acceleration,

Opera 12.00 can now use hardware acceleration from GPU to render websites,Opera Interface itself and WebGL. Unfortunately this feature is disabled by default.

However you can easly activated it.

1) Type in address bar opera:config#UserPrefs
2) Find "Enable Hardware Acceleration" and set value to 1
3) Find "Enable WebGL" and set value to 1
4) Press Save (which is on bottom on User Prefs section)
5)Restart Opera

I'd try it and see what you think. I don't have a very good video card on this machine so i don't think it's helping that much.

ok i downloaded and installed 64 bit. now i have both versions on my machine...how can i export all my settings (speed dial, passwords, etc) from 32bit to 64 bit?

I like the hardware acceleration so far but it may take some getting used to, and Opera will probably need to polish up a bit. Small fonts do look a tad fuzzy (but nowhere near as bad as Safari or some sites under IE9), but overall it feels snappy.

Bigger issue (if it is) is that each tab seems to eat up video memory. GPU-Z doesn't have process monitor but when I closed Opera w/ 6 tabs, it freed nearly 300 MB of video memory.

Overall I'd say give it a try. You can always turn it off if you don't like anyway.

Stupid version 12 now has these tiny dots instead of larger icons on each tab. This must be a bug as I cannot imagine that this is the default.

ever since O12 only anandtech & its forums are slow as molasses for me. All other websites are ok. Very strange - cleared cache and cookies.

wtf happened to my settings? I followed the above for hardware acceleration and soon noticed this. I reversed the 2 settings and it's still like that. I reverted back to 11.64 and it's still like that. Every site. Looks like a CSS rendering issue or something?

Or if anyone knows where my settings including my speeddial and mouse gesture settings are kept, I'd like to do a fresh install to see if something got corrupt.

EDIT>> grrrr, uninstalled and reinstalled and same thing. Is it something in the opera:config? I've been using IE all day and it makes me realize how much I depend on Opera.
