Openly carrying sidearm causes concerns

People who do that are stupid, but they are almost always in the legal clear. States need to realize concealed carry makes a lot more sense.
 
I do not understand why people open carry. It would make much more sense for people to underestimate you (CCW) than know that you are armed, unless you are using it as a deterrent.

If more people open carried there wouldn't be concern with seeing somebody with a firearm. Sure there are guys who are troublemakers and looking for a confrontation (they want people to call the cops on them or get thrown out of a business) to stand up for their rights. They're like open carry protestors.

For the same reason the military does. It makes it easier to draw and use their weapons.

Fact is, the public expects the police and military to openly carry their weapons. They do not expect the public to do so for the most part (Security guards, armored car people, etc would be the exception to that.)

Most people who carry a weapon do so for self defense, not as a 'show of force'. There are times and places for both, but usually concealed makes more sense and provides a good balance between protection and not alarming people who may not understand the right to openly carry.

I am a concealed weapons permit holder and I do carry my weapon 99% of the time where its legal for me to do so.

Using a bb gun he can quickly show you how much faster you can draw and get on target with open vs. concealed carry. The difference is seconds and those seconds could be life or death.

Normally I try to avoid agreeing with Hal9000 since he's almost always wrong, but this. The guy was being a prick on purpose. Stop wasting time and police resources. The cops were polite ( at least for the first 2 minutes since I got bored listening to this retard). He should definitely get his permit yanked.

Exactly, he has the right to do what he's doing and the police have the right to check he is operating within the law if they receive complaints.
