Would you ever consider it? What if your SO thought it was ok for you to see someone else, once in a while. Would you? Would you let them?

No, people aren't wired that way. Either you're really married or you ain't. Open just means "I don't care if you get hurt".

My parents (father and stepmother) were swingers and their marriage fell apart when they invited another married couple to come live with us.

Imagine that.

ETA - My stepmother still lives with the other couple. Dad's long gone.

Oh Hell No!! No way I could look at my wife and tell her I love her after I just pulled my crank out of another woman.

Can only work in the very rarest of circumstances, bordering on the almost never.

I've known people who get involved in polyamarous relationships. There is always one person very dominant and another very submission/subservient, and anyone else is kind of desperate. Between social conditioning and really an inherent desire amongst people to make long-term relations monogamous, open relationships can never work well because of people being people. For the most part, these relations are complete train wrecks.

Damn...that must have been uncomfortable to have friends over.

Well it was kinda weird. We got used to it. We never really liked to have friends over though when we were teenagers because there were half naked pics of our stepmom all over the living room walls in provocative poses. :Q

Just our closest friends who knew about our parents came over.

It is difficult to maintain a good relationship with a single person. To try for a working relationship with 3 or 4 or , god forbid, more is next to impossible.

I added a poll. I guess that's the question I wanna ask...

Let's say it went like this. You love each other and the vast majority of the time, you're like most other couples. But, once in a while, if you wanna get some variety, you get to go have some. One is love, the other is sex. What's the problem?
