I don't know about inventory dates of other CCs in other states, but in Virginia, I think the inventory date is next Sunday. We're currently using 6 laptops (3 Compaq Pressario 700, 2 HP...???), 6 printers (HP 940C). We're only using them for inventory (they're new from the boxes!!!). After that, they're gonna move them to Open Box items. They're not returned items!, watch out for those deals

By "Next Sunday" I'm assuming you mean the 27th?

Watch out for CC "open box" items.

I once bought a VCR from them that was supposedly NEW and open box. Got it home. Just the stub of the registration card with somebody's name written on it in the "keep for your records" portion. Missing items. Had somebody's HOME video tape in the VCR.

It was obviously a customer return and I had been assured it wasn't.

I hope this was an isolated instance but I suspect not.

Some of them are returned items. Some of them are not (the boxes of those items were damage during shipping process, they just took the boxes out).
But i'm not talking about those items, i'm talking about brand new laptops that are used for inventory dates (I was the one who cut out the UPC from those boxes)

Interesting... I would have thought that a large corp like CC would use one of the professional inventory firms. With an estimated 600+ stores as per the CC website @ 6 laptops each costing ~$700.00 even at CC's bulk buying power = ~$2,520,000.00 just for the laptops. Add in the printers + labor and I can see why CC is going broke!;)

BTW - Why on Earth would CC choose Sunday as inventory day? Sunday is their busiest day. Why don't they choose a week day. While traveling for work related issues, I have visited CCs all over the country and with the exception of the Holidays, I have never seen more customers than employees in a CC during a weekday. Usually the sales people out number the customers by at least 2:1

They're not losing much money, because they're gonna sell them back as Open Box

They've chosen Sunday because the stores are closed at 6 PM, we're gonna do inventory from 6:30 - 11:30. We've prepared for everything throughout the week.

The inventory will end in Monday 28th. I guess they will start selling those laptops a couple days later

The Circuit City in South Charlotte had their laptops and printers out last weekend in one of the home theater rooms. The guy there said they will be open box with $150 knocked off the normal price. I saw some Sony VAIOs and Toshibas in there. And they all had the same type of printer hooked up, some HP model.

I guess GetReal has necer worked in retail and doesn't realize that you do inventory when the store is closed not when customers are roaming around buying what you just counted.

$150 of on laptops doesn't sound like a hot deal practically new or not!

He probably thought the store would be closing all day on Sunday to do inventory.

I definately do not miss circuit city inventory. BTW CC does their own inventory to save money. Develop their own software too. Works pretty good for the most part. Expect about 200 bucks off these laptops plus whatever rebates are offered on cooresponding model numbers.

printers will only be good deal if they replenish the cartridges after using them. When we did inventory we used nec laser printers. not inkjet. Just food for thought.

Also Circuit City usually buys the employees pizza or something. Not the ideal meal when you are pretty sure that stinky guy or gal over in the audio dept. didnt wash his/her hands after wiping !!!!!!

The other day I was at CC i saw a Compaq laptop open box for 550 I asked them to lower the price to 450 or 470 they didn't.

So I didn't buy it next day I want the guy came up to me and said the laptop you was looking at has been sold.

The system was 700 Celeron.

I saw it for around 850 on pw.

i am gonna go every friday to check out the laptops.

Yep, they've developed a pretty good software to use with inventory. And because we've saved the UPC code, when a customer buy those laptops, he will be able to get the rebates (most laptops at CC have rebates). The color cartridges are still sealed, we use only black cartridges. I don't know if they're gonna replenish the black cartridges.
And yes, we get food all the time.

What So Cal CC you work at Mobius? I used to work burbank. I remember at times we caught a few customers buying laptops and other stuff..returning them...then trying to come back later and buy them at open box price. The open box price is created by the Store manager so it will vary from store to store.

The system offers the open box prices, but usually those prices are not good enough. That's why the store manager will knock the prices a bit more
