Look around, Republicans have controlled major parts of our govt since 1994 and we arent on 1400 bps modems like you claim we would.

Compared to where? I'd venture a guess in places like South Korea and Japan the govt decided to plow a shitload of money into internet infrastructure to deliver higher speeds. Though admittedly I dont know what they are getting over there for the avg user compared to what a NYC will have. We have Fios and DOCSIS 3.0 rollouts happening across the United States as we speak that can bring multi Hundred Mbps to the home. Many areas of DOCSIS 3.0 and Fios have 50Mbps packages.

I live in a city 35 miles outside of Minneapolis and have a 10Mbps with burst to 20Mbps line for 29.99\month. What can I get in Japan or South Korea that is so much better for the same money? I honestly dont know.

unless you're in one of the few fios areas (or uverse but then you're really paying through the nose) there is a large jump in residential bandwidth (easily 2x-3x) available elsewhere for the same or less money.

If you left infrastructure concerns to the Republican's we would still be using 1400 baud modems.

See Genx87's post. It's coming. I don't think we need the government interfering to get it a few years quicker. Also, I would hypothesize is that there may not be that there may not be that huge of a demand for "even higher" speed internet because it's already pretty fast enough for most people and businesses. I can watch hulu and download steam games no problem. Yes, it would be nice to have 1080p streaming and have steam games come as fast as they can write to the hard disk but I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay the carriers back for their expense to install it just yet.

they've been saying that for 13 years. instead we've almost all still got copper plumbing. it was only a couple years ago that sbc/att started putting fiber to the neighborhood, let alone to the premises. and that coverage map is a joke compared to their joke of a 3G wireless coverage map.

After reading your post ,my post and his post , I believe I was in the wrong because at first I didn't realize that he did not understand that my original comment was a joke. I tried to explain along that way that it was a joke but it got lost in the fray.

I can see that if someone came in an read these posts without knowing I was joking could have easily took my comments the wrong way.

I was convinced he was busting my balls about giving the GOP shit about being in opposition of infrastructure in general. So I was reading into his posts with a jaded view.


I am sure this wasn't the first time this happened on this forum nor the last.
