So you called me out by making an ingorant statement about Republicans would have us on 1400bps modems? The only proof I need to provide is a healthy dose of reality. Look around, Republicans have controlled major parts of our govt since 1994 and we arent on 1400 bps modems like you claim we would.

Uh huh, troll is troll.

As for your link. Geographic concerns are major issue within the United States. We have a very sparse population compared to a Japan, S. Korea, and many European countries.

that's an excuse for rural areas, but why the hell are manhattan and other dense urban areas in this country still slow in comparison to similar places elsewhere?

Compared to where? I'd venture a guess in places like South Korea and Japan the govt decided to plow a shitload of money into internet infrastructure to deliver higher speeds. Though admittedly I dont know what they are getting over there for the avg user compared to what a NYC will have. We have Fios and DOCSIS 3.0 rollouts happening across the United States as we speak that can bring multi Hundred Mbps to the home. Many areas of DOCSIS 3.0 and Fios have 50Mbps packages.

I live in a city 35 miles outside of Minneapolis and have a 10Mbps with burst to 20Mbps line for 29.99\month. What can I get in Japan or South Korea that is so much better for the same money? I honestly dont know.

Define slow. I live a dense area and my cable internet is fast. How are you suffering?

"slow in comparison"

if X speed is
>
Y speed
then Y speed is "slow in comparison" to X speed

unless you're in one of the few fios areas (or uverse but then you're really paying through the nose) there is a large jump in residential bandwidth (easily 2x-3x) available elsewhere for the same or less money.

asking me how i'm suffering is like asking someone in the 1980s how they're suffering without email.

My original quote making fun of GOP commitment to the internet through infastructure. It was a joke to prove my point.

If you left infrastructure concerns to the Republican's we would still be using 1400 baud modems.

Dude your FULL of shit.

Nice attempt at a troll. Well actually that was pretty pathetic. You trying to be Jokus 2.0? As bas as jokus is, at least some of his trolls are witty. Republicans have held major control of the executive and legislative branches basically since the inception of the internet in mainstream America in 1994. Back then a 14.4 Bps modem was what avg American used. Today avg America has a connection speed of about 3Mbps.So you were saying?

So you wouldn't think you were giving any credit to the GOP for increased internet speed with this quote...

I asked you to prove this BULLSHIT claim which you never did but you managed to twist this thread into a big pile of shit attempting to make yourself look credible.

Yeah riiight.

For God's sake, SERIOUSLY. It was perfectly clear what point he was making, and you were owned. Genx wasn't trying to credit the Republicans with anything; he was refuting your ridiculous claim that implied Republicans would hold internet speeds back. Obviously they did no such thing.

P.S. It is "you're."

See Genx87's post. It's coming. I don't think we need the government interfering to get it a few years quicker. Also, I would hypothesize is that there may not be that there may not be that huge of a demand for "even higher" speed internet because it's already pretty fast enough for most people and businesses. I can watch hulu and download steam games no problem. Yes, it would be nice to have 1080p streaming and have steam games come as fast as they can write to the hard disk but I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay the carriers back for their expense to install it just yet.

great, he took your joke seriously. internet is srs biznis. however, no, no one would think he was giving credit to the GOP for increased home connection speed and the only one twisting anything here is you.

they've been saying that for 13 years. instead we've almost all still got copper plumbing. it was only a couple years ago that sbc/att started putting fiber to the neighborhood, let alone to the premises. and that coverage map is a joke compared to their joke of a 3G wireless coverage map.

After reading your post ,my post and his post , I believe I was in the wrong because at first I didn't realize that he did not understand that my original comment was a joke. I tried to explain along that way that it was a joke but it got lost in the fray.

I can see that if someone came in an read these posts without knowing I was joking could have easily took my comments the wrong way.

I was convinced he was busting my balls about giving the GOP shit about being in opposition of infrastructure in general. So I was reading into his posts with a jaded view.

I am sure this wasn't the first time this happened on this forum nor the last.

I'm betting there was some agreement setup prior to the companies putting down the lines on public land. Probably something like, you can do x in return we get y.
