The current gas guzzler tax on new vehicles. The f150 gets 28 highway, all lower should be punished harsher.

you should actually look up exactly what vehicles fall under the gas guzzler tax. You’ll probably come to realize an extra zero means nothing to the people purchasing them.

Good news! That should bring the price down to $3.75 a gallon here in the land of fruits and nuts.

Fuck that shit. We already pay a gas guzzler tax by using more fuel...and paying more taxes.

the gas tax hasnt been adjusted for inflation in almost 3 decades. perhaps it needs to change with the times.

of course no one wants to pay taxes, but who wants to drive on shitty roads and structurally deficient bridges? gotta pay to play, as in most things in life.

As someone that actually works in excise tax (particularly with motor fuels that you are referring to)... they ABSOLUTELY should. That means all your hybrids, Tesla's, etc... need to pay their fair share of it as well as it relates to roads, bridges, pothole, etc... maintenance. So, they need to figure out a way to convert the current tax (based on per gallon of gasoline/diesel) into a price per kwH for electircs.

But yes - I'm in full favor of jacking up that federal rate that hasn't been touched in ~20 years.

I mean, in addition to paying for it on the basis of inflation, it should also be adjusted on the basis of fuel efficiency.

No, the F150 does not get 28 highway, link to manufacturer proving so.
Looks like 26 is the top of the charts for the 2020 F150. Took nearly seven seconds to find that piece of information.
Add lumber racks, tool boxes, a dump trailer, and you can get that right down around 10 in no time.

Correct, and that 26 in basic V6 trim, how many opt for that?, no one around here. Most are glorified grocery-getters anymore it seems. Not that I give a shit, drive what you want but anyone claiming pickups are Eco-freindly are laughable.

it may help in the short term but in the long run, not so much after the price goes back up and then some.

it adds to to the volatility in the market and I doubt anyone really wants a more unstable market.

Its another Russian plot:

Drive down gas so low that alt fuel sources, shale oil collapse, smaller OPEC countries collapse. Americans buy a bunch of humungo big cars.

Tighten the sprigot and now you've really got everyone by the balls.

Also nukes, so its not like freedom can ride in and liberate the gas.

Only kinda sarcasm.

I read an article stating just that......that Russia declined at the last moment to rejoin the rest of OPEC in keeping caps on production....and maybe drop the cap even more.

It speculated the real reason Russia back out of the agreement was the same as when SA started its price war a decade ago....to drive the U.S. shale oil production out of business. Didn't work last time, won't this time.

That was the speculation....I'll try to locate the article today.

big ass trucks and suvs

I just hope people don't start buying large vehicles with the drop in gas prices as this is temporary the the prices will go up.
