Oops, gonna lose my job...

This thread is not about love...

Just got married last month.
Right after I came back to my office, I was told would be laid-off on March.2nd.

what a shame!

Do you suck at life?

If you suck then this is a problem, if you are amazing then this is an opportunity.

I seem to think like you, but for the life of me, I can't quit nor could they fire me. Life would definitely be better. I just live life too comfortably.

You need to be head-hunted.

I should be an IT head-hunter, this is a great place to network.

Screw-it, i have to neff...

Hey, OP, wanna start a business where you kick ass and take names?

I had that happen 2 months after closing on a house.

6 months later, was pulled back in as a contractor to finish a project.

LOL- keep thinking like that in today's job market and let me know where it gets you.

I've been looking for a new job for 3 years. I'd have to move 500 miles away to get something as good as I have right now, and---like most people today---there's no way I'm selling my house in this market and taking the risk of not getting a loan for a new house somewhere else.

That sucks man. I hope things turn around for you. Congrats on the marriage, I have my own coming up at the end of the year.

Layoffs?!!! You kidding me??!! Don't talk about Layoffs!!!!

Laughed really hard at this.

OP, that sucks. I dont know what I would do knowing that I was getting fired. I believe I would get drunk and mess up a lot of the companies stuff to screw them over as much as you can.

Good Luck! I got laid off 10 months ago...it is horrible out there, especially if you want to transition into something else. I had to settle for doing these small contracts for little money. I just signed a 3 month contract, but the pay is still pretty bad.

Sorry to hear that OP. My 3rd layoff in a row is coming in June, so I've been applying for the past month.

Good luck in your job search!

I have mixed feelings on this issue. A few friends have had a hard time getting "gainful" employment, one in the sense of he is now doing something totally different than what he went to college for and what he was doing before. the others are looking and looking. They go to interviews, but no call backs or something like that.

Myself it wasn't so much a layoff, but rather the "under employment" which got me the kick in the butt I needed to get started on my own business. I still don't make as much as I did prior to all this going on, but at least I am not drowning anymore.

Good luck dude!

IBM just laid off 1k people again. My dad was safe 😀

Kodak went bankrupt and started laying people off, but my mom is still there... And like rh71 said, its not easy for her to go into work each week and wonder if she still has a job.

I became employed as soon as I graduated college, and then got laid off 5 months later. Looked for 2 months, and found another (better) job. Sometimes lay offs are for the better, I'm making more now than I did before.

What do you do?

That sucks, OP.

I've been through more lay-offs than most folks here, and they're rarely "convenient."

Hopefully, your prospects are better where you're living than they would be here...we're bouncing at 16%+ unemployment rate...and have been there (or higher) for the past 3-4 years.

Best of luck in your job search. (find a new one before 3/2 and just quit!)

I lost my last job when my wife was 2 months pregnant. But it was one of the best things the ever happened to me. My current job is a huge improvement. Start looking NOW.
