Darker, where did you get the $150 V5? Did you pricematch it somewhere or something?

[Edit] NM found the thread talking about it. Pricematch it at staples + coupon [/edit]

It's time for this site and others to seriously consider putting the smack down on all the idiots who are saying that 3dfx is going out of business. This is clearly false and misleading, and worst of all, is exactly the kind of thing that could help ensure their demise, and thereby reduce needed competition in the 3D market. Technically, the SEC could come in here and have a field day with some of these punks.

I just tried to do the pricematch following the instructions referenced earlier. Staples rep said their internet access is down right now so he couldn't verify the price, but offered to take the order but put it on "hold" until they were back on-line. I politely declined, and will call them back a little later to try again.

This was at 10:44 CST.

Well I have an X2 in my 800mhz Athalon system and it runs 91 FPS on Q3
The reviews will tell you that it comes already overclocked, so don't expect to overclock it more. It has fast memory on it and a large fan
which are two good things about it. My system locks up sometimes after its on awhile and I don't know if its because of the X2 or the Athy
setup? But I'm gonna try to buy one more on the pricematch deal right now.
My 3D prophet is better though (but cost me $300 ) and yes the X2 has TV out.
Hope this helps, good luck!

OK I just called Staples back (11:20 PM CST) and asked a different rep if their internet access was back up. At first she said no, then put me on hold and came back to say it was. I placed the order, did the price match, and applied a $30 coupon. Free shipping, but they charged me tax, so the total came to $114.05

got one too, used the $25.00 off $75 =$116.98 better than an MX (I think)
or good e-bay item.

Eldercat,
That is an Geforce 2 MX, it is slower than the Geforce (1) DDR. I was referring to a Geforce 2 GTS.

Geforce 2 GTS

Don't buy this card, it isn't a special deal. I am just using this link to show eldercat the product.
Thanks...

Just to help clarify some points.
This card is not a GeForce2 card. Not a GTS or an MX.
The GeForce2 cards are the latest versions.
GeForce2 Ultra is the best.
GeForce2 GTS is the next best, and is what the majoity of power gamers are using.
GeForce2 MX is the slowest of the GeForce2 cards.
All GeForce2 cards now use less power, and may be more compatable than GeForce cards.
Elsa rates the Gladiac MX higher than the Erazor X2. (technology wise rating?)

You can get a Visiontek GeForce2 GTS card for less than $150 now, and Visiontek is rumored to be the supplier for Elsa's GeForce2 GTS cards, which happen to always rate the best for visual quality. GeForce2 MX cards can be found for less than $100.

So the next best card would be the GF2 GTS at less than $150.

RobsTV,
I just checked prices at pricewatch.com $155 is the cheapest on a VisionTek Geforce 2 GTS at cnetpc. I can't tell you if they are reputable or not. The companys I listed to buy from are very reputable and you won't have trouble with them. I am just saying that if you want those cheap prices, you are taking a big chance of having problems with these small companys. Onvia has that Visiontek for $244.

whats the main difference between the geforce DDR and the GTS 2?
How does it effect gameplay on Q3 for example?
I've read that the MX is a Geforce 2 with SDR memory, how can that be better than DDR memory?
Just curious, I have 5 systems networked for games only and as long as they don't hesitate during gameplay I don't see a need to upgrade (graphics look great too) Two DDrs Two TNT2s One TNT 1 (asus) only the TNT1 sometimes hesitates and its not a big deal.

paying $150 plus to upgrade I better see a major difference!

Cisco, SDR memory is MUCH slower than DDR memory (about half as fast). With the MX cards, it won't matter much due to the bandwidth being cut in half when DDR memory is used. With this Geforce 256 card, it has the full bandwidth allowed for the DDR memory. This makes it much faster in memory access than the MX cards. The MX cards however, have a faster Geforce 2 processor. This helps make up some of the performance difference by using either slower SDR memory, or less pathways to the faster DDR memory. I still don't believe that the difference is going to be that drastic between, the MX cards or this one. I don't play very graphically intense games, but the thought of TV outs intrigues me at this point. I wonder how D2 will look on a 56" HDTV:) At ~$110, it makes it a very nice buy if you're in the market for a good card with TV out.

Don't search pricewatch, search this board instead for Geforce2.
Pricewatch NEVER beats Anandtech.

If you do you will find reputable companies such as Computer Geeks for $159 delivered. Use mastercard 10% off and it's even less. Or other companies as low as $132 for the Visiontek GeForce2 GTS card. I paid $144 for my Visontek GTS card 6 weeks ago at Ubid.com. Before the mods here deleted it, there was a link for $132.00.

The Visiontek card pissed off some of the senior members here, since they had been selling The Creative Geforce2 GTS card here for around $170, and were being undercut by a card that rates better by many. When 1 senior member posted a price of around $165, others here jumped all over him for making money off of us in Tech Deals, and one person actually posted the site that some senior members were getting these cards for $132, then reselling them here. These posts were deleted by the mods.

Has anyone who ordered this card gotten it yet? My order status still shows processing, with an expected delivery date of the 28th. I've never ordered from Staples before, how close are their estimates to reality?

I got this card yesterday. It looks pretty sweet, I haven't gotten the other parts to my computer yet so I can't try it out. Looks good though, I got it in like 5 days I think.
