Only in America Story

Last name is Georgian.

Yep, LOL. Only in America are people so clueless about their heritage. (E.g., OP happy about a non-Pol.) It reminds me of Jersey Shore types thinking their Italian in any meaningful way. They're not and if they'd been to Italy they'd realize it.

"Only," where? I do not understand this banality of US exceptionalism. There are also multiple instances throughout the globe of first generation immigrants achieving high level business and political posts.

Likely it comes down to that of ignorance of events elsewhere in the world and repetitious jingoism that is widely conditioned to such a point as to be gospel.

Technically he was a stateless person till gaining US citizenship. He was however born in Poland and spoke Polish, thus my contention that he was a Polack. Hell, he even said he was Polish.

Yes, I know his family's history.

Bottom line, he did well, by doing good. This is another example of "only in America".

But "only in America" is the norm here.

*Debates the initiation of disingenuous flame war*

Nah... 😛

Edit: Nevermind... This is P&N!

So... Is that your wife in your avatar?! :colbert:

That's Sam. He's a camel with super powers 😀
The origin is in a series of ongoing bedtime stories I tell my son or at least it used to be. It's now more of a series of spontaneous interactive tales where we role play various parts. It's good to be Dad. 🙂

Edit- I almost forgot-
So... Is that your wife in your avatar?!

HOW DARE YOU!

😀

This thread is of inane extreme nationalism and wasteful forum trolling...

It wasn't presented in the best way, but it's a legit news story that belongs in politics and news. Why don't you stop worrying about what belongs in a forum that you just joined or tell us who you were in your previous incarnation.

I really don't understand why this is a hot forum issue. A US general and first foreign born army chief of staff just died, a man of stellar achievement just died, does not that rate at least one RIP, if not let me be the first.

Who should care what country he was born in, once he immigrated to this country as a very young boy, he proved he was a real American and more than payed back our Country back for our investment in an immigrant boy who was a pig in the poke.

In my mind, John Shalikashvili was just another person who made the world a better place during his life, and now has left the world poorer in his death. So in closing let me extend condolences to his family. And also say John Shalikashvili proved the military and a humanitarian are not contradictions in terms.

I started a thread on the death of an American General.

No, you didn't.

You should have started the thread on the death of an American general, but you didn't. Instead you started a thread on american exceptionalism, and attempted to use this mans death as an example.

And frankly that annoys some of us, because what you're effectively saying is that this couldn't happen anywhere else, since every country but the US sucks in your opinion.

A bigger defense budget than the rest of the world COMBINED. We spend so much on the military that we don't even provide healthcare to all our citizens. Come at us bro.
