<< It's just like Asheron's Call or Everquest.

No, it's NOTHING like them. It's not a turn-based, shard-based, completely-static with your actions affecting nothing with 1/2 real-world scale ultra-realistic physics 10k people at once with 50-200 in your actual immediate area of interaction with combined ops warfare and deformable terrain and buildings. Anyway, I'm off to go play... it'll take 2-3 weeks for it to get to where it was going to be at launch, but once it does....

*goes into drooling spasms* :).

Alright, ill read up tommorrow. Still, open beta is unexcusable. Not only would it let people on the fence try it out, they wouldn't be having these bug problems they are right now.

I meant in terms of persistent characters and monthly fees.

The graphics are supposed to be better and the terrain is deformable, etc.

Oh great, deformable terrain. Now you guys can watch what happens when someone gets in a tank and decided to blow a hole to China.

Though actually that could be useful for defense. Just use tanks to blow up a few hundred feet deep moat.

Do you need broadband to play? Seems like it, having thousands of other people playing at the same time.

I'll pass.. that $10 a month could be used for something useful instead of a game riddled with bugs, not mention it costs $40 just to even try it.

Still, I could use that $30 for a game I could play for free online. It's still a great concept for a game but I just don't have the money to throw away at it.. :)

I use to pay $10 a month to play Air Warrior 2 and if this is anywhere near as much fun as that was I will have no problem paying.

Sounds interesting but I can't see me paying monthly to play a game. Kingpin is still free online! :D

I love the people who post things like "I will never pay to play a game ever" yet they are usually the one's who pay 10 bucks to watch a movie then come out of the theatre and say things like "that movie sucked" or "I want my money back". Now when a game comes out that offers a whole month of action which is for some people very addictive they won't give up there 10 dollars. That makes no sense to me, the money goes to pay for the server costs and pays for the people who monitor the game from inside and make it their job to improve upon the game on a monthly basis.

I've heard that so far players can play as English, French, or German in the French parts of Europe. When will they be including the Italians, Soviets, Japanese, Americans, and North Africa and the Far East/Pacific? It sounds like it could work IF they get boatloads of people to pay the monthly fee.

I think it looks promising. I'm gonna wait a month or so and see how everything is going. I have a good system and broadband so that shouldn't be a problem. $10 month shouldn't be too bad if me and my bro split it since we'd both play it. $5 a month for many hours of entertainment? Of course!

edit: I doubt they're will ever be a free huge massively multiplayer like that. There is such a load on the servers they need to spend so much money constantly upgrading them. Look at battle.net. For how crappy and laggy it can been it's a great deal. It's free! I'm sure there's a pretty big load on them because of all the blizz games (mostly D2 I'd say) and D2 probably puts a big load on the servers because of all the server-side things to try and combat cheats.

You can't run a dedicated server like in CS/Tribes 2 because it's meant to be played with hundreds and thousands and a dedicated server outta someone's home can't handle that.

Ahh, Air Warrior...

AOL was actually good for something once. Way back when, when I still had a 486, AOL offered Air Warrior for FREE! I used to play AW all the time, oh how that ruled. I started getting good, and then they pulled the plug :(

After reading the reviews.. Its a cool idea and all, but I can't afford 10 bucks a month + the cost of software. Those who can afford this are lucky.. Good luck guys. :)

Golden puppy, calm down. It's a freakin game, and people are entitled to their own opinion. Calling CS or UT what ever crap FPS is stupid.

BA thats where I got started too. I even paid the $10 for about another year till they started changing crap around in the settings and I went from pretty damn good to a dweeb and could never get it back. I believe the last squad I flew for was the 416th Lynx.

I am really looking forward to ww2 online and I think I might just go buy it this weekend. I just hope my crappy v3 2000 is going to be good enough, I would hate to have to upgrade hmm and I might need a new sound card too :).

<< Yes. How their system works is that the Blitz retail package along with your monthly fee provides you free updates until the entire eastern hemisphere is done. This includes all countries, which are all planned and will be in the war within 1 year (6 months real time) of their actual entry date, influenced by players. Then, you eventually in the far future will buy a second retail pack that gives you the western hemisphere, and all of its updates. Note that this was the plan for as long as I can remember from before release (I followed the game for ~2 years before release), but seems like it should still be accurate. Heck, with so many subscribers, far more than they expected, the western hemi might even be free for all I know :). >>

So are they trying to make it somewhat realistic to history (ie: it's been two weeks so the French should not be playable anymore) or will every country be free to fight forever?
