So I cannot seem to get an RMA on my receiver. Tech. Support acknowledges there is an issue, but the Returns department is... less than useful. The woman who answers the phone there has taken my info 4 times now and promises to call me back "when the girl who handles returns gets back from lunch." She has been at lunch for 4 days now, I'd say she needs to see a doctor.

The people in these threads weren't lying:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb...customer+service+onkyo

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb...o+customer+service+bad

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb...o+refurbished+problems

At least they fixed the phone system so that calls don't just ring forever, someone answers it and then ignores you!

BTW, I have tried talking to Bob Elder (said he couldn't help) and Janet Strata (transferred me without saying a word after I explained my problem). :(

Harman Kardon, here I come!

Yeah, I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience with this

Don't worry guys, it's not your faults. It was me being cheap by going refurb, which isn't what I normally do. I would have recommended Onkyo as well. I didn't think there could be a catch with their awesome pricing. My main annoyance is that I went directly through Shoponkyo.com instead of Circuit City or something where I could just return it and get another.

If this is about the "clicking" with your setup, I want to warn you that my H/K 247 does the same thing if I pause a movie. I can hear a very noticable tapping noise in my surrounds when I put a DVD on hold.

It's not anything serious or overly annoying, but it's there.

It's more like the crackling of a fire through one channel, randomly going through all 7.

Bummer man. I just got a refurb 705 from them and its fantastic. I heard a pop through the left surround speaker once, but who knows what that was.

As far as their phone system goes though, yeah, it sucks. I've had good luck emailing them though. Both times they actually wound up calling me back within a few hours and resolved my problem.

I'm guessing if you push the issue enough, you may be able to talk them into paying for the return shipping as well.

I've been lucky to have no issues with my Onkyo receiver, but I won't be buying from them again. It took nearly a week for my friend to just put an order through due to their ordering software not having the correct year for his credit card.

If you have that much of a problem when you're trying to give a company money, I don't know what service would be like after they already have it.

Harman Kardon makes Infinity and JBL. They make excellent speakers and components. But they are usually a bit behind the latest tech curve on the receivers, not sure why, but they usually are. However the power amplification they use is second to none. They also make Mark Levinson if you really want quality and price is no obstacle.

You can also get some incredible deals here Harman Audio Ebay Store Nearly all my 20 plus Infinity speaker purchases from here bought as refurbs were actually new in the box. But I think you might have more of a chance getting the various electronics as actual refurbs, like receivers, though. All the products have a full factory warranty, regardless.

Sorry to hear about your Onkyo problems. I noticed you posted before in the related thread Need help some help with speaker selection!!! I just reposted these links for you or anyone else who is interested in Harman Kardon products. Welcome aboard! :D:beer:

Did you honestly just link to a problem with a 6 year old receiver from 2001 that was the first to have Dobly Pro-Logic II?

Onkyo recognized the problem, found the solution, and gave consumers a means of finding a service location to solve the problem.

Telephone is not the way to deal with such things. You are free to try once if feeling lucky but certainly if that does not produce immediate sassifaction then there needs to be written record and accountability otherwise it is not surprising that you get the run around. To be fair it is not necessarily nefariousness or incompetence, per se, but just that no one person at the company is aware of your tribulations. The voice conversations dissapear into the ether and all that remains, at best, is a brief note. With email, any one person can immediately see the history and those dealing with the issue are accountable since their name and actions taken to resolve the problem are recorded.

I tried emailing, got nothing out of it, twice actually, once using the contact quoted in avsforum.com.

So they truly do just suck then? Pity. Fortunately, I have not had issue with the refurbs from shoponkyo.

My refurb Onkyo Receiver just died on me too. All of a sudden no sound. When I whack it on the side sound comes back for a while but then it goes out again. I'm thinking it's a bad solder joint or something like that.

Yea, I did. I did not post this link originally, and now it is dead. I guess the magical and mysterious Onkyo super faeries who shill here pulled the plug on that Onkyo link shortly after I reposted it.

And no, I did not research the link to determine what magical flavor or year of Onkyo goodness that wondrous link might reveal, since I don't fixate and harp on how great they are because they are CHEAP, not because they SOUND GOOD, like some others do. Unless you decide to buy the top of the line Onkyo, then you might actually get what you pay for. But from what I have seen and heard of their top of the line in the past, I was still left vastly underwhelmed compared to H/K or Denon.

I fixate and harp on H/K, because they sound less loud at 10 than my car stereo does.

What Onkyo super faeries are you talking about? Link still works?

I bet the Onkyo CSR department runs their FAQs. It's not a conspiracy, they just cannot keep anything right.
