One Week Until Waffle Tacos

I feel like everyone who's ever said this to me has ended up frustrated. I've eaten at all the most famous places in Dallas, El Paso, San Antonio, Houston, Austin and down in the Rio Grand Valley, as well as Mexico City. Oh, and all over SoCal. My brother lives in Hollywood, he's a mexican food fanatic (tacos erryday) and he's mystified that I don't love the places he takes me.

Sorry, I just don't think anyone's doing anything revolutionary with beans, rice, meat and cheese. Give me the cheap, standardized version.

Okay, it seems you just have bad taste. Enjoy your bottom of the barrel fast food I guess. 😀

I think everyone's confusing this with Mexican food. It's not Mexican food. It's Taco Bell.

I wonder how many of those CrunchWraps I can eat in one sitting. I bet 6.

There is a joint near here that makes waffle sammiches; they are delicious and look a lot better than what they showed in the picture above. I do enjoy Taco Bell, but I hate almost all fast food breakfast; always makes me feel gross.

I can't see myself ever partaking in these dishes. Honestly, I prefer much more Mexican style of breakfasts rather than bacon + egg in a tortilla. Give me some lengua or barbacoa, heck even chorizo is fine!

I'll have you know that I like plenty of nice things. My Hi-Point C9, 2003 Kia Optima and most of a bottle of Jack Daniel's Devil's Cut come to mind. Jerk.

I keep seeing the 'Ronald McDonald' approves commercials. They are far more clever than I'd expect of a Taco Bell commercial. Can't say I have actually tried one yet, though.

I wonder how places like Pizza Hut and Taco bell can stay in business.

Their food is awful, and all the competition is better, and generally in the same price range.

People say that starting a new restaurant is hard, but how can these shit places with awful menus and horrible ambiance survive?

Every town (at least around here) has their share of little indie taco or burrito places that make way better food (sober OR drunk.) These little taco or burrito places often are cheaper than taco bell too.

Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are cheaper than 99% of other places of similar style.

The reason they stay in business is consistency. Every taco you've ever had at Taco Bell tastes nearly identical and there is a reason for that. And, Taco Bell isn't even that bad. They have identical ingredients to most places for their food. A taco is a corn tortilla shell, lettuce, tomato, cheese and meat. Their meat might be the only thing of inferior quality from a real restaurant, yet a taco cost a whole $1. And, then factor in that it is not only fast and cheap, but extremely convenient. I don't even have to get out of my car.

It is the same reason people eat the awful hamburgers from McDonalds.

And, I've come to the conclusion that only the most awful of people don't like Taco Bell. So, you sir, are literally the scum of the Earth.

Obviously everyone agrees with you. That's why Pizza Hut and Taco Bell went out of business years ago. 🙄

So has anyone partaken yet?

I was there at 7am on opening morning just east of Dallas. I had an AM crunchwrap combo and thought to order some of those cinnamon ball things to sample them when I found that two are included in the breakfast combos. Impressive!

The crunchwrap was tasty (I had sausage but you can get bacon or steak) a little smaller than a regular crunchwrap but extremely filling. This thing was packed with potatoes, eggs, cheese and sausage. The cinnamon balls were ok, but not something I would order again since I try to stay away from sugar & empty carbs.

Nice. The crunch wrap is something I want to try. I think the waffle taco would make me nauseous, but the wraps look pretty yummy.

taco bell has crunchy corn tortillas which are horrible (for tacos). They also have flour tortillas which are bad (for tacos.). (Tacos should be soft corn tortilla, accept no substitutes)
They use some sort of imitation ground beef rather than chunks of steak.
They do not have al pastor tacos.
They do not have lengua tacos.
They do not have cabeza tacos.
They do not have chille releno tacos.
They do not have chorizo tacos.
They do not have Chicharron tacos
They don't have habaneros. Their "fire" sauce is as mild as Tabasco or Sirracha.

I am comparing them directly to dirt cheap hole in the wall taquerias, or cheap discount burrito places like "El Famous Burrito", or "La Bamba."

Give me Al Pastor tacos with some habenaro and I am very very very happy.

I will admit that I do 'like' the "Mexican Pizza". But just about everything else on the menu is drab and flavorless. I agree, it all tastes the same. Thats the problem! They don't season things, and they do not have any real variety in the meats.

I do not see why people would choose to go to taco bell vs any little taco or burrito shop. Maybe in some parts of the country, there really aren't any other options. (Sturgeon Bay, WI for example, where my grandmother lives, does not have a place where you can get a real taco or burrito....)

EDIT: PS, lets discuss this at taco Bell? How about the one over by Milwaukee Rd and Dundee Rd ???? I could go for a Mexican Pizza, haven't had one in forever!

Concession: OK drive through.. yes ... fast ... yes ... convenient ... yes ... none of the little indie taco or burrito places have drive throughs ...

Enjoy your tacos folks....

I did not mean to ruffle the feathers so much, but, I suppose my rant really was out of place / did not belong here. So, for that I do apologize.

No worries bro. I have a soft spot for the Bell going back to my high school days when we would drive down to the United States of America to see concerts and Taco Bell was all we could afford for food.

I would eat at small taco joints all the time if they existed around here. Heck Taco Bell does not exist around here either, so I need to live vicariously through all of you. 😀

I ate a waffle taco and a crunchwrap the other day.

The latter, I found to be rather excellent. A notch above breakfast burritos with similar ingredients at other fast food joints. It's the crunchy potatoes that make it better, I think. Also seemed remarkably not-greasy.

The waffle taco (that so sounds like VD) was the opposite. I don't even know how you make a greasy waffle (also VD), but they did it. It was impossible WITHOUT syrup. How in the shit they expected you to pour it on top and eat it, I have no idea.
