I don't see your point then. You're saying music is about ego. That's wrong. Rock, in particular, is about attitude, not ego.

At the end of the day it's all about the music. Yngwie is a pompous ass, true. I wouldn't care if his music didn't suck so much. Other performers have enormous egos but actually make good music: David Lee Roth, Axl Rose, Noel Gallagher, etc.

It's obvious you have something personal on Yngwie.

Again a real musician wouldn't be such a bitch.

Yngwie embodies everything that is wrong with guitar wankers. He's the figurehead of a long line of players who wouldn't know subtlety if it hit them on the head.

Did you hear about the guitarist who died and went to Heaven? He was walking through Heaven with Saint Peter. Suddenly he heard a guitar being played.

"Hey", he said, 'That sounds just like Jimi"!

"That IS Jimi", Saint Peter said.

They continued walking. All of a sudden the man heard another guitarist. "Wow, that sounds just like Stevie Ray!!", he said.

"That IS Stevie Ray", Saint Peter said.

A few moments later the guy starts to hear yet another guitar. "Wait a minute", he tells Saint Peter, "That sounds like Yngwie. But Yngwie isn't dead".

Saint Peter looks at the guy and says "That's GOD. He thinks he's Yngwie!

Technical ability isn't everything.

That's who immediately came to mind.

I also agree with Cerpin Taxt, I think that particular solo isn't worth so much praise.

I've played the guitar for many years and still do not understand why solos are so prevalent.

What? I think there are not enough solos in today's music. Nowadays, It's all about making a 3 minute song that can get playtime on the radio...

Between the thread title and first reply, I knew what the link was.

He plays that guitar like it is a damn machine gun and he is the last man standing against the Nazis.

I was thinking the same thing. I replayed the end 5 times and I still can't figure it out.

He just very smoothly tossed it into the hands of a guitar tech in the wings most likely. Saw Alex Lifeson do this once when he broke a string during the solo in "The Trees" back in the seventies. The replacement was on it's way as he tossed the one with the broken string off stage passed each other in mid air. Lifeson popped it on plugged it in and finished the solo hardly missed a bar. Smoothest thing I ever saw. Figured they had to have paracticed that move.

It was good, but I wouldn't call it the greatest. Not even for prince was it the best solo.

I was also wondering where his guitar went after he threw it up in the air o_O

That's good. I hate when musicians destroy guitars. It was cool when the Who and Hendrix did it but nobody wants to see that anymore. Besides, they always swap out their $10,000 custom guitar for a $100 Squire just before they break them, so it's just a farce anyway.

Little trivia: Eric Clapton played the lead guitar on the Beatles original recording of Guitar Gently Weeps.

Prince is a good showman, but an average guitarist. You'll noticed he's doing all the rockstar moves, but technically what he's playing is a bunch of held bends and trilling. In the guitar world, he's like a wedding cake- awesome frosting but the cake is average.
