I know Prince is a talented guitarist, but (and I know I'm gonna sound snobby and probably get flamed) that particular solo was underwhelming for me. I haven't picked up a guitar in probably 3 months and I could likely bust a solo better than that.

Love it. An amazingly versatile instrument. Solos just typically feel like the guitarist stroking his ego on stage. It's some sort of asinine requirement of all rock songs.

There are some good solos though. Whether it be on the drums, bass, vocals, etc.

Welcome to 1983. Prince is one of the most underrated lead guitarists in music. I think the electronic aspect of his catalog overshadowed his solid work on the six string.

Why would he? Kiss always had good songs and the solos were musical. Guys like Yngwie are only technically impressive but the music sucks. The ability to shred fast on the guitar is about as impressive as the ability to juggle balls on your head. It's just a parlor trick when the output is not musical.

I don't see your point then. You're saying music is about ego. That's wrong. Rock, in particular, is about attitude, not ego.

At the end of the day it's all about the music. Yngwie is a pompous ass, true. I wouldn't care if his music didn't suck so much. Other performers have enormous egos but actually make good music: David Lee Roth, Axl Rose, Noel Gallagher, etc.
